That's a fair call..But taking on extra games is a big risk, it could be more than just 8 points. But with Free Agency next year the club has to be financial, so i understand why it is happening...

Correct me if I'm wrong WYL, but my reading of the article was that our commitment to the NT games had ended. We have taken on one game for next year from Richmond, meaning we only play there once, and next year is the end of it all unless we strike another deal for 2013 and beyond.

I think an important aspect of this is that the Melbfc has made some important progress into the community in NT so far, too. To be able to continue the good work done and improve our ever improving "brand" (take note Denham, *cough*), it's important this continues - not only for the 'coin' short term, but our community development programs.

We're 2-0 in Darwin and another hitout in the top end won't hurt with our "bye" nearby...

Well there's the answer then to the "After Darwin Game"

We haven't beaten the Hawks since 2006 (?) and of late aren't even in their league as a team ( soon to change ! )

It was the Cats in 2010 and the Hawks last year - same scenario really - we weren't good enough to beat either team regardless of the Darwin fixture ..

We've got bigger fish to fry anyway - start playng as a team , adhering to the fundamentals of the game and no more bruise free stuff .

I'm happy with it.

The MFC supporter base is nowhere near the bigger teams and recent form hasn't made us any more appealing. Got to get more supporters somehow and this makes perfect sense, especially now we are only 1 of 2 teams playing down there annually.

Playing a game over in NT every year will definitely build the fan-base and hopefully we can do in NT what the Hawks have done in Tasmania. The list caters for it well too... Jurrah, Davey and Wonaeamirri are much loved hometown heroes.

And $500,000 for a club still asking supporters for money. It works.
