The Alan Toovey thread

Havent seen anything much discusssed but its quite possible Toovey will walk. Unsure of reasons , possibly Pies cant afford him .

Any interest in a premiership defender rated quite highly by most filth I know ?

Would likely show in the draft.

I'd take him but I would tell him to find a new agent I heard him on Sen and he is a [censored]. He stated no club should trade with The filth because Toovey would be in the draft. I'm sure that went down well at the negotiations table.

I would say our coaching panel would have a real insight on whether he or any others from Colliwobble land leaves.

I would have thought Neeld would know him well. Could be a handy pickup to strengthen our already more than handy defence.

If Toovey goes into the draft, he'll be at GWS next year for sure....

Agree. An absolute certainty.

Would you look at offering Pies Bate pick from dogs. Given Pies position they would probably do it. Then they would keep McCaffer.

What about McCarthy who is 189 cms same as Toovey but who is still 21 while Toovey turns 25 before next season. McCarthy a mid fielder is 2cms taller than McCaffer and has kicked more goals per game than him. Is young has played in a top side and has development in him and can kick a goal. Could not get into the Pies mid field because of the talent there.

Of course I know that our Coach would know all three inside out.

Toovey wants more money than Collingwood are offering, and by the sounds of it his idiot manager had been filling his head with ideas that he should be paid better.

For a start, it depends on how much Toovey wants.

Secondly, he looks like a handy role player, but where we he play?

Is he really better than anyone we already have?

I think it's just a case of "ooh! Sorta handy premiership player walks out! Let's get him!" and the thinking doesn't really go beyond that.

And as everyone else has said, Neeld would know.

If he wants Toovey, I'm all for it.

I like this Redleg. McCarthy has a lot of upside. The other way could be to send pick 12 to the Dockers for 16 and Nick Suban. he's a tough unit and could allow for Grimes to move to the midfield. I reckon we should also look at Bate and our second round pick to the Dogs for their first pick. In all honesty 39 is about right for Bate if it was a normal draft year, but this year 39 is really about 10 spots worse than that. Could be worth a try.

Just looking at prices. If Tom Lynch is pick 37 how can Bate be worse while contracted with 90 games behind him and a goal kicker. He has to be worth more than Lynch who has hardly played a game.

I agree Redleg. I think the Saints did well to get 37 for Lynch - interestingly enough both he and Bate were originally number 13 picks. Bate does have more runs on the board. That's why I think we could float the second rounder and Bate for their first pick. If not, he's contracted so we don't lose anything.

If the media are correct in saying this is a weak draft, pick 37 is probably not worth what it normally is and I heard on SEN that anything outside the top 20 is seriously thin. Not sure I really rate picks above 30 this year, going to have to get extra lucky, I'd say the crows were the winner out of that one.

For those that ask where to play him youd give him the realm that Bartram currently enjoys...Toovey however CAN kick a ball. Granted this was not always the case, but it IS now. . Hes a BP kinda guy with massive offensive pressure . Hes actually got the things Barty lacks. That would be why I would like him. But everyone is entitled to their own take on it.

So can Clint, only not straight.

In all honesty you dont want Barty doing anything much with the ball once he has it. And that sort of defeats the purpose of bein gout there. Toovey has developed nouse with disposal..

I actually love the way Clint plays except when he has to kick the ball. He tags effectively, runs hard at the ball or man, goes all day, is a good clubman, but just can't kick. Reminds me of another fairly good Demon whose son will be joining us next year. Todd and Clint are similar in their attack, with Todd having the bigger physique and hitting harder. Wonder if Robbo could do some work with Clint and straighten up his kicking. Robbo was a poor kick, before he worked on it one summer and became a good one.

Im sorry Red.. but though I agree with yo that barty's attack on the ball and corraling of opponents is terif, his disposal is an utter liability that is for me a deal breaker for anAFL player. You walk across that line and I damn well expect you to be able to kick a footy..Its FOOTball ffs.

To compare Todd and Barty is really just this side of ..well.. incredulous. You suggest theyre simialr then describe how theyre not. And for good reason theryre not. Todd was a Demonic and fearsome leader who would send shivers down the spine of any opponent in his sights. I just cant quite see that happening with Barty. His opponent will respec thim...not fear him.

The reality of Barty is hes played 5 seasons without the slightest glimpse really his disposal will better. His skillset in this matter is set in concrete and whilst this sort of player is with us we will never claim a flag. Harsh maybe.. realistic though.

Toovey actually shows how a player develops...this is the contrat with Barty, some learn., some dont. Some have premiership medallions, some wont.

I actually did say that Todd hit harder. I do agree however that if you are to be a strong team disposal that bad has no place in it. That is why I suggested Robbo to improve his kicking. If it doesn't, he will not be on our list for a long time.

Well as regards the last few posts, Neeld has said the disposal skills ARE important, so it will be interesting to see whether either Clint can be taught to kick, or misses out.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
