Keith "Bluey" Truscott - Best & Fairest Night

The main thing about Beamers speech (and I regret not filming it) was that he is gutted not to be playing finals and that it kills him to watch the finals each year and not be apart of it. He said he can't understand why Joel Selwood gets to play finals and not him. the way he said it was full of emotion.

Thanks for that. There's an article in today's Age which covers this as well:

Now BB lets not let the enthusiasm of new coaching staff and good signs for jimmy get the cart before the horse.

The team in 2012 will be almost the same lot that performed so well this year.

I seriously doubt we will be much better in 2012.

The best I think we can hope for is one or two more wins, reduce the number of large losing margins and no 30 goal losses.

We are IMO 6-7 players short of being a team capable of making it to 7th or 8th spot.

The coaches name is Mark Neeld not Jesus Christ!

I'm old enough (50+) to remember the graffiti added to a church sign in Hawthorn in the 1970's. The sign said "What would you do if Jesus Christ came to Hawthorn?" The added graffiti said, "Move Peter Hudson to centre half forward". So, what would we do?

[Note: I assume every one of us would gladly say, "Make Jim Stynes well". In that case, I'd settle for the second thing you'd do.].

Me? Get Jurrah superfit and play him on the ball.

The thing was Old I made th ebet with wife at the start of this year, not recently ..lol. I had reasonable expectations , well I thought they were..lol

Im expecting some very real and discernable change next year. Not of an earth shattering nature but a noticeable one. Apart from the notion some players who ought to know better couldnt possibly string together two stinkers ( could they .?? ) but some wil have those extra games under belt and another pre season. .

If Neeld can get this midfield to even half fire properly the whole momentum of games shifts. So much about footy happens between the ears and I just dont think many of our players have had their heads in the right space for years. Thats about to change as some might even be dragged screaming into a mind-frame of playing football consistently..

I dont think Neeld was chose just so he could baby sit and mollycoddle some of these guys' egos. Nope, he was brought on board to kick their little tooshs !!

I , and I wasnt alone , have said time after time that there was a defintite 'crowd' at Melbourne who seemed all too cushy under the old regime. That al changed just over a week ago.

i must confess I do like Beamers "cut to the chase" style of commentary ..lol I wonder if Col took it on board ?

I agree BB I was just having a good humoured go at you.

Thought you might have had a bit too much lubrication on Friday night.

Mine is a pies supporter so you can imagine the crap here at present.

I am trying to keep my expectations low for 2012 after the disaster of 2011.

Old.. my wife,,,her family 5 bros 3 sisters all filth !!! all of them Beleive me.. I understand !!! lol

At the beginining of this year when we all placed our idea re finishing spot I thought wed be just in the eight..or knocking.

Im nto saying boo this time til I see how we go in the NAB ..lol What ought to happen and what does are so different hey ! hehe

And my lot firmly believe JC plays for Collingwood...as they would ( wood ) .

Its bordering on the foolhardy I acknowledge but even teh speaking styles are just that bit different between Bails and Neeld. Thats not to denigrate Dean but he gave littel away..ever. Mark is on the front foot...hes spelling it out. YOU WILL PLAY MY WAY !!.......... I like it :)

How about a team made up of our best 21+?

FB: Bartram – Frawley – MacDonald

HB: Garland – Rivers – Bennell

M: Jones – Trengove – Gysberts

R: Jamar – Moloney – Scully

HF: Green – Sylvia – Petterd

FF: Howe – Jurrah – Watts

INT: Martin – McKenzie – Bail – (Grimes)

Take out $cully and in comes Aussie, who goes to the bench and McKenzie on the ball.

Only person I feel looks out of place is Grimes as the sub, but whatchagonnado?

How did Jim look and sound. Did he stay all night?

Grimes leadership award? Really does that show how crap our leaders are when a guy gets it who has virtually missed the season. It doesnt make Brad or the other leaders look great.

What else did Mark say?

But we dont know what Grimes is doing behind the scenes/off field...

I just finished watching all the individual interviews on DeeTV and was very impressed at how the players were keen not to talk about themselves and their achievements, but how and (most importantly) where they are going as a whole team. Good to see!

Also funny to see Chippa with his arm around Jones for their whole 7-minute interview.. holding each other up, perhaps? :P

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
