"This interesting and rare surname, found widely recorded in Gloucestershire, is the Anglicized form of a Dutch name which may have arrived in England at two periods in English history. Firstly, it may have arrived in Gloucestershire when Edward 111 brought Flemish weavers over to teach their craft to the English, with many settling in the Cotswolds. More likely however, the name followed later from Holland due to the religious persecution of French Huguenots, by the Duke of Alba who suppressed the Protestant revolt in the Netherlands (1567 - 1572), and who fled to nearby countries."

And jcb, I'd let go of the Nasher bashing. You're not exactly covering yourself in glory.

Nasher is clearly a racist. He obviously hates all anglicised dutch aboriginal Turks. What a shameless racist.

Thanks for the surname history. Interesting.

Agree on jcb too.

Les Bian is a standout, very skillfull, hard at it backman,,,,,,

True story. There was a L.Behan played for Melb U19's in 60's and went on to be a start at Port Melbourne

Unfortunately 'L' was a Lance not Les but say L. Behan quick enough and it's close enough.

Let's not be mistaken. Yes it is an awesome name but Fred-Dee is also an awesome player. I know, I go to the EP games. He was the WAFL Rising Star for the 2011 season, is a great kick, makes quick and accurate decisions, goes in hard, appears to be well liked by his peers and from some of the examples I have seen, too brave for his own well being.

If you don't want him in Demonland we will surely take him back with open arms at the Royals ... if he doesn't go elsewhere in the AFL ....

Lance was his brother who played for Fitzroy, the one we had was Brendan.

You are right......how could I have stuffed that up ...I knew and played with him (briefly)

Lance also played for Richmond.

Brendan's potential was highly touted when he first came to Melbourne but he struggled to get a senior game.

He became a star player with Port Melbourne in the mid 70s.

Off the field, he formed a partnership with Malcolm Speed in a legal practice. Speed was involved in basketball and later became famous in cricket administration.

I knew I'd heard the name somewhere

Peter Sellers 'The Party' (1968) ... 23rd cast member/character down

http://www.imdb.com/...ullcredits#cast

In fact there's a whole cluster of clutterbucks in there... birdy num num

So, is Clutterbuck fever coming to the MFC??

Thanks for the surname history. Interesting.

Agree on jcb too.

No issue Lower deck- you have never thought for yourself- can't wait for Ultimate footy to kick your brains in,you looser.

So, is Clutterbuck fever coming to the MFC??

I don't think so.

Was he picked up anywhere?

Pity - the name alone would draw crowds ;-)

I reserve the right to irrationally hate Leigh Williams for taking Clutterbuck's spot.

Unless LW turns out to be good then I'll do the most ridiculous about face in history.

To make up for the lack of a silly first name I insist he becomes Leigh Von Clutterbuck, then we're square.

well we've got him back over in the West at the MIGHT ROYALS and will get to watch the legend every week ...

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
