Shane Valenti is Kevin Rudd.

No-one was saying such nice things when he played for us. It's only once he's gone that people think they really liked him all along and were mad to let him go.

How quickly we forget.

We are striving for excellence. Valenti has some excellent attributes. AFL footballer isn't one of them.

He was considered too small and too slow for AFL.

Just watched the VFL grand final, posters on here were right, Gary Ayers cant coach. Has no hope of any AFL future, cant get the best out of his players. One word in answer to that. Crap!

Watch the game, see the effort he gets see the pressure, hard at the ball and the opposition. a stand alone club week after week playing against aligned clubs with stacked sides.

2011....... Every game a winner. Lets see Malthouse or anybody else do that. Mighty effort by ALL involved.

Hope to see some of the players drafted, some good small forwards there.

Rudd was a good poli' at thestart til he worked himself into one foot in the ground and the other in the manic room.

He nearly all but burnt out. His sacking has saved him for another day.

Sorry Taxi Tony. But your days are numbered.

Who'll give odds whether numbskull Tony A, is shot down by friendly fire, before, or just after the next election? ;)

Abbot will win the next election easily, but what prey tell has that got to do with drafting Valenti or his football ability?

For that mater what has that got to do with anything football?

Loved Valenti when he was on our list and was disappointed not to see him play more. His application and ball smarts were fantastic. Was sad to see him get cut especially when others on the list possessed but a fraction of his heart. Unfortunately heart only gets you so far on an AFL list and his lack of size and whatever else they thought he lacked made the decision for them.

Congratulations on your second Liston and good luck with your future footy endeavours shane. Would love to see you get picked up by another club. All the best.

People said he wasn't up to it when at melbourne. Which may be a fair call but i remember him playing about 8 of the last 10 games of his final year and was in our bests a couple of times. I remember loving his hardness and thought that he was a little stiff. But now you look back and think he was only 21 or 22 at the time. We have players like Morton who are that age that played a lot worse then he did back then. His Clearance work in the GF and all year was first class and is a player that wouldn't look totally out of place on any list

The Club should have a look at Patrick Rose - small forward, lovely kick, has been in the system for quite a while now and presents with a mature body. Won the goal kicking this year and really knows how to create space for the bigger forwards.

I think he'll make the transition easily.

We've been crying out for a small forward since Wona's horrible year (no fault of his own) and Maric's inability to make the grade.

I was dissapointed when we delisted him, especially seeing we persist with players like Newton.

And you ain't, as they say, Robertson Caruso on that mate.

I was a great fan of one but not the other.

Back to the point of the thread I reckon Valenti was hard done by, we dropped him after he played his best game for us and he was certainly better than a few others on the list. I hope he gets picked up but not by Essendon I would hate to have to hate him.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
