How good is our list?

Watching the Scorpions on TV on Saturday left me very worried. The side was choc-a-block full of our young prospects.....Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Nicholson, MacDonald, Bail,Bate , Dunne and others.

They were playing at second tier level, against a side with nonAFL players, and were hopelessly outclassed, man-on-man all day.

Are we deluding ourselves that we have the material, and that they just need to mature?

Please reassure me, Demonlanders, that I'm reading too much into that insipid performance by our seconds.

Just a couple of points Werribee is aligned with North Melbourne and there were a few North Players out there. The problem with Casey on Saturday was the same as the past couple of years we have put a few players out I'm sure Jetta, Blease, Maric and few other could have played but the club has put them out. The midfield was second rate and a lot of players just didn't care, they wanted the year to be over.

I have no problem where our list is at we need to add more depth into our midfield, some quality outside mids is what we need to look to drafting, we need to get players that can carry the footy and hit targets. To me this needs to be number 1 priority.

Thanks Dr Drake. I couldn't work out who they were aligned with. I thought North were with N Ballarat...do they share it? They did have Majak Daws and another name or two I recognised, but not nearly as many AFL listed players as us, I'm sure. That Ross guy should be chased, and he's unlisted.

As for players just not caring, I hope that's wrong! It didn't look that way to me, but if they WEREN'T trying, they're not the sort of people who should make an AFL list.

North share across the 2 VFL clubs.

Bate & Dunn are well documented.

Fitzpatrick didn't play to my knowledge.

Bail underdone.

Jetta, Blease or Maric would have helped.

Casey had a weak midfield in my view.

Fitzpatrick played, but may as well not have. Bail was considered fit enough for AFL the week before(actually, he and Nicholson weren't the Scorps' worst, but both kept getting caught with the ball).Bate and Dunn appeared to be trying, but were beaten by better opponents.Warnock battled on, but was beaten one-on-one too many times.

Going by the AFL and VFL final ladder positions for North Melb, North Ballarat, and Werribee, it seems North's list is far superior to ours. Yet experts aren't predicting great things for the Kangaroos!

MacDonald, Bate and Dunn aren't our young prospects. They're not in my best 22 and there are guys with more potential/upside that I want to squeeze into it.

Gawn is a long way off but looks likely, while it's too early to make a call on Fitz. Nicholson's fringe at the moment, while Bail's barely played any footy this season.

I wouldn't be worried about what happened on the weekend.

I don't think the issue was so much that Werribee's players were any better than Casey's. For me it was Werribee's game plan that was better. They moved the ball quickly into their forward line and put a lot of pressure on Casey players. In contrast casey fiddled with the ball more and were more indirect.

I have no doubt the quality is there for MFC. My opinion.

Casey reminded me of watching the Dees this year.

I agree 5 and 6 handpasses in a row, you are correct "fiddled with the ball more and more and got more indirect" that covers it.

Those aren't our young future players except Gawn.

We seem to have good strike rate 2009-2011 for players who are going to be guns and reasonable number who will develop into good ordinary players.

Guns - Bail, Blease, Gawn, Gysbert, Howe, MacDonald, Tapscott, Trengrove, Watts

Let me just get the safety catch off - Evans, Nicholson, Bennell, Strauss

Is this thing loaded - McNamara, Grimes, Jetta, Jurrah, Spencer

Firing Blanks - Wonaeamirri

Ive got a really good feeling about Stef Martin and Bennell.

Our list - already devoid of leadership - had the rest hatched-jobed by Bailey leaving a young group of stunned mullets running around with the big boys. Watch what a bit of direction and some size does to these boys.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
