When we play them the Hawks always seem to have more bodies around the ball; I've noticed in previous games they circle the packs and wait for the ball to come out and then pounce. We seem to have bodies fighting for the ball in the packs but no one on the outside to pass it off to if we win possession.

Due to our smaller bodies we pushed more into the stoppage to try and win it. Hawthorn due to their size can post some outriders to push it out to. Compared previously to when we have played Hawthorn, Carlton, Geelong, I actually thought there was a marked improvement in our ability inside the stoppage today but they simply outclassed us when they got it out.

Endeavour was good today until we ran out of gas half way through the third. However too many times we took one handball too many or handballed when the kick was the right option.

I was amazed with our lack of change in tact aside from the usual Watts behind the ball option. Garland was getting pantsed by Rioli and we lacked Frawleys dash yet even when the game was getting beyond reach we did not free Frawley up and move Garland to Franklin.

Too often he's a show pony and forgets he needs to kick it to a fellow Demon, who can do something with it.

Could sort of forgive one of the young guys but his mistake in the 3rd qtr was not worth 450k.

Why is his default panic move dropping Watts back into the hole? Why the f' was Trengove in the backline when we were crying out for some talent in the middle? Why can we not play under pressure?

They were first to the ball, made better decisions and were a lot cleaner with there ball use, It's as simple as that.

Not sure you can really say we had a dip - 5 straight goals to none at the start? Very ordinary in the contested and uncontested stakes all day. Hawthorn have us physically and mentally.

Also not sure why Bailey thinks playing effectively the same game plan which has brought us 7 straight losses to the Hawks would result in a different outcome.

Take out the first 10 minutes of the game ,the goal the umpires gave them in the third quarter and thats 6 goals less .

Fix up Buddy ,Rioli ,Mitchell and Hodge and you win .

I thought our numbers around the ball were ok, we just couldn't stop them breaking tackles all day. I believe this was the area that decided the game.

Four key influences:

The Hawks - very efficient when forward, lots of disposals to set up their success, a few 'stars' in the mix. Genuine top 4

The umpires. My goodness, neither team would be happy. I was very cross (and expressing it) today!

The 'burst' Demons - IN a couple of bursts, we were pretty good. Not enough to win a game, but we were pretty good...

The 'schoolboy demons' - lots of silly errors, turnovers, bad decisions. Second to the ball.

Hope we grow up and play 4 quarters against top sides soon...

Out coached again, all I ever hear is that Bailey is a master tactician yet he is by far the worst coach in the year. Has little chance of being re-signed at the end of the year. Hawks had many out and a few coming back from injury. The end margin flattered us should have been closer to 90 points. Embarrassing again.

In what ways was he outcoached. What did he do, or not do, in hindsight?

I'm not sure why we feel the need to bomb it into the forward line.

I thought the same thing today as they were doing that, and the answer I thought of, was that we were starting to lose faith in our ability for our Mids, to work hard enough & smart enough, to set the play up well enough to run through the middle and setup our forwards. >>> Lack of run & tiredness. >>> then Watts goes back to help out.

Monsterd in the midfield again in a pessure game.Exactly the same as the Bulldogs game, exactly the same physical effort,exactly the same result, exactly the same culprits. Skill errors killed us. If we executed better we would have had more influence on the scoreboard.

Only thing that I would like is a better system for getting out of defense. We really dont seem to have that system bedded down as well as other sides.

We really need a bye after the Darwin game. It takes too much out of the boys.

For something a little bit different...just how much of today canbe attributed to last weeks body sucking game in Darwin..and how careful must we be to the scheduling of these games given the clubs apetite for them. Ill go on record and suggest we OUGHT NOT play these real season games here. fine for showcasing in the NAB etc.. but We are Melbourne.. not bloody Darwin.

Actually, that made me sick. The same as I felt watching Burchall run around setting up play all day, without an opponent.

Allowed Burchall to run free the whole game.

Played Watts on the wing.

Had no discernable structure to our forward line.

Played an extra player behind the ball which may have led to my first point.

Left out a fresh Bartram who might have helped shut down Rioli.

Hasn't taught us how to tackle properly.

Hasn't taught us how to apply the forward press against a good side.

Has no method to our kick in.

Has no method to the opposition kick in.

Has no plan B.

Hasn't improved the skills in kicking, handballing and decision making.

Hasn't got players to be prepared to gut run or simply offer a lead or make position.

etc, etc, etc.
