Ever heard the phrase “ smiling assassin “?

I've had people call me that, although the emphasis wasn't on the smiling part.

Julius Caesar didn’t see his assassins smiling either. Mainly because Brutus and most of the brave boys, stabbed him in the back.

I'm not that clever, you'll see it coming.

What's the problem with that Red?

It seems quite logical to me. If you need to stab someone, do it in the back. It's certainly safer for the stabber, not so much for the stabbee, and I'm sure quite effective. Plus it's sneaky.

Whenever Brad Johnson is on TV.

Well the Ojays would probably agree.

The question is: why so long between 'drinks'?

Does anyone think that May might kick out to his right at all this year?

Hopefully the long bomb to the left forward pocket, where we have one key forward against three tall defenders, is off the menu.

With Tom and Benny fit and firing and with JVR hopefully getting his chance and Max or Brody, we have options.

I'm looking forward generally to what new elements there might be in our ball movement. Ours is - or at least has the capacity to be - the fastest, most skilled, most disciplined squad.

Meanwhile, to your opening query, he'd probably end up doing - you guessed it! - a banana, that accordingly still ended up out to the left.

Machiavelli tells a wonderful story of an Italian prince who conquered a new territory, essentially adding a city-state to his realm. To establish order and root out the corruption that was his pretext for an 'invited' conquest, he sent an absolute hardened b-stard to overzealously crush everyone who was even vaguely suspected. When the locals started arcing up about things going to far, the Prince used this agent as a scapegoat, and arranged to have him assassinated, body cut in half and dumped in the middle of the town square, thereby both 'satisfying and stupefying' the populace, because they got what they wanted but... Mio Dio! Quello è selvaggio!

Now, that is how you stab someone in the back.

Also an example of a surprising historical fact; you're much more likely to be stabbed in the back/assassinated/betrayed and so forth by someone more senior to you who fears your ambition, than by someone beneath you trying to climb.

Of course, this is all in the old days before the invention of the banana smoothie brought peace to the world.

I know there's a debate to whether our game plan has been worked out or not but this aspect of it really has. Opposition coaching  for this moment was in full effect late last season, studying the fall of the ball and how to position for this moment. We need a more varied ball movement strategy.

My Demon Chooks update for anyone besides me who cares. Or anyone who’s prepared to pretend to care. 😁

L to R: Langers, Harmesy, Fritta and Melksy

Turns out Melksy and Harmesy are girls. Langers and Fritta are boys. The No-Roosters Council bylaw applies purely for noise disturbance reasons. In case we ended up with any boys, my son and I chose this particular breed of bantam based on the fact that they have the quietest cockcrow, so hopefully little Langers (the self-appointed alpha) won’t trouble anyone and we get to keep him.  🤞🏼 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Well WCW you will be reassured to know that your Uncle Bitter cares and (as usual) is prepared to help out.

I have an excellent spit at The Manor so... if required... Langers and Fritter could "serve" a higher purpose -  ie being "served" at  The Manor.

Please don't accuse me of Insensitivity - I'm just trying to help out.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
