What's a Piecost?

Been waiting to use this joke again for about 30 years, so thanks Biff.

Actually I don't know what a pie costs. I also haven't bought a pie for about 30 years.

I would imagine they are now a few dollars.

Don't get me wrong, I think a women's league is a fantastic thing, it just doesn't interest me. The same way men's netball doesn't interest me.

I agree ET perhaps it will appeal to me over time.

I cannot get into the Big Bash. I like cricket but the sides are made up with no history and no tribal back ground

As well the players change each season.

Perhaps i will get into Female footy at least there is a established team to support.

I'm ambivalent

male and female tennis cricket cycling squash and (soccer) football both interest me for the contest , skill and theatre.

However I am a male and the vicarious experience of males playing is more attractive to me. I relate to male involvement and reflect on my own capacity against that benchmark.

I have enjoyed playing with Females but as I age fear that concentrating on females leaves me open to accusations of sexist behaviour.

It's different from the men's game and will grow with time. I don't look at it as a comparison to the blokes, rather a style of footy that's more straight forward, which can be appealing to watch. Here's hoping the AFL don't f*** it up and remove the grass roots feel or turn it onto a commercially focussed business (fat chance of that not occurring). I know a couple of women in the new comp, including one of the marquee players, and hope to take a bunch of young kids to see a game or two over the next month.

Enjoy mate sadly I cannot raise the same enthusiasm.

It might have something to do with the time of the year.

The misogyny on this thread is disgusting.

I'm burning my mansiere in protest.

Yes I am sexist only watch woman sport if the woman look good and most men are the same, it won't take off, they will get good numbers watching this year but that's just the novelty factor.

If I was a woman then I would be a champion footballer, only can kick 35m

The ball they're using is smaller and lighter so they may be able to kick further.

We might want to wait until the league actually begins.

Its hard to be excited by something that hasn't even started.  I am keen to see Daisy strut her stuff, she very highly rated by her peers

Diametrically opposite view Redleg on AFL.

However, I understand your view point, For me, it can depend on the sport. I retain a strong interest in Women's Olympic Sports. However, I am not very interested in Women's Road Cycling compared to the men. Cricket similarly. However, I suspect that if I had a daughter or daughters that were top sportswomen I would follow that sport with great interest.

Perhaps attitudes can depend on the culture and history of a sport together with the marketing or lack of. Bullfighting comes to mind!

However, the AFL women's comp has definitely got me interested as I think their skills are terrific. Also a women's comp just seems the right thing to do given their involvement in the sport particularly as spectators since the early games played in Yarra Park.

I have no problem with the competition being formed, I am just personally finding it hard to garner any interest.

On the other hand if we made the GF, well !

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
