Uncle Bitter is back!! Let it be said that I made an honest attempt at rehab but the gods simply conspired against me. Let me explain.

After being given the arse off this site I decided to sit down and contemplate my failings. Then Moonie appeared at Romsey Manor. Plenty to say but sans grog. The 'lads' picked him early but I didn't listen and Moonie proceeded to drink gargantuan amounts of my alcohol with apparently no concern for the old Aussie tradition of actually buying.

I decided that going to one of those "Zen" places might help me. There is one nearby. Now this seemed to be going quite well and I was ooomming along with the best of them . However, a leotard cladded young lady appeared to be in some difficulty. The ever chivalrous Uncle Bitter attempted to assist. This led to a number of accusations ( One being that I was I trying to find her "centre" rather than my own) so I decided the best policy was to remove myself from that particular organisation.

Funny really. It had bizarre similarities to my expulsion from the gym. Young women are quite confusing really. Then there was my visit to the Primary School. Apparently there was some churlish objection to the bag of lollies. Strange world.

Then .. foolish me. I took Biffen to a Grand Final lunch at one of my clubs. Suffice to say it is now a former club.

Had a few glances at Demonland along the the way.

Some things don't change. The Snitch was sniveling and whining continuously. No surprise there..

Apparently my time in Coventry could have been shorter but for a personal reference. I shall look into this matter.

Welcome back Bitter...hasn't been the same without you ;)

Let me address the recent short term memory loss that Uncle Bitters has conveniently suffered in his past months bender.

Firstly ,having met our unrepentant and irrepressible squire at a certain mens establishment in town for elevenses in the lobby, things were going well until I was hit up for the "Homeless naughty teenage girls fund" which at the time seemed a worthy cause.More of that later.

In the lifts i began to regret my decision to meet the recalcitrant one ,as ever, when i noticed similar country types in the lift displaying the uncouth coarseness we expect of unsophisticated hayseeds in the big smoke. Not to be outdone in the bad manners and non-existent grooming stakes,The Squire decided to release enough methane to power a small town as the lift took us to the banquet room.

After creating a scene and having our seats moved next to the bar,the squire, unhappy as ever with the vino, insisted on an upgrade of red, which our friendly barman agreed to,and pulled out the best Lindemans.

We plonked our way through inedible food and nonsensical speeches and were asked to leave the banquet room as the Romsey squire was approaching the bargirls with offers of short term farm work, the kind mostly done on stud farms.

As I managed to persuade the truculent host to adjourn to a more private area ,i recall Moonie pulling himself out of a demonstration that had gathered on Collins st to help me carry the Country Member back to his train stop.

It was a day that did little for my social standing, and even less for charity.

it's an ill wind that blows nobody good, biffo

Uncle Bitter being referred to as a Country Member. Ha!

As Gough once famously said, "yes, I remember"

The Groucho Marx quip re clubs and membership also comes to mind.

Good to see remorse from the bitter one, shows how big a man he is. I've heard quite large, but that may be bragging.

What's been happening?

Biffen is full of it - his drunken behaviour resulted in me having to prove why I should remain a member of my club. FMD!!!

And ... as for Moonie ... [censored] me .... all he can do is drink free beer.

And what about the snivelling Snitch? FMD what a pissant.

I need some cultured company. OD , how about you invite me to your sister's winery and we drink free pinot?

And I'm still hunting down the class traitor who wouldn't give me a personal reference.

And dc - I 'm having some relationship difficulties ATM - could you toss a couple of greyrinsers my way please?

You wont believe your bad luck Bbo.

After no vintage this year the Pinot reserves are almost exhausted and their will be no more till 2017.

Even I cannot get a free bottle.

Sad but I guess we are used to disappointment being MFC followers.

And dc - I 'm having some relationship difficulties ATM - could you toss a couple of greyrinsers my way please?

stocks are a bit low, bitters. seem to have been to a lot of funerals lately

i've got a few ideas to replenish stock so check back in a few months

you'll just ave to tighten the belt (if you get my gist) for a little longer

Er, shouldn't your sig read "bitterer than ever" or "more bitter than ever"?

The bigger bit is a given.

Ahh BBO how good it is to read your dulcet tones again after your totally unfair enforced vacation. Only Biffen knows how many strings I tried to pull to overturn your ban and I more than anyone knows about the power of pulling strings! I battled strongly in your defence but the powers that be could not be swayed. Their demands were too much, you would not want to know the details.

So be it but you are back and all is well, as if nothing has happened. Remember in adversity we must all stick together, that is my motto!

earl, i suppose with the dumping of ex pm abbott your influence in matters of high state must be waning. you need to move on and get more into malcolm's circle of influence

So an Earl and a Republican walk into a bar......

Nope, don't think that'll work. There's no punchline to match that.

And in Good News today there will be no Melbourne players amongst the International Rules squad taking on Ireland.

Any fears of injuries preventing any of Demons taking to the preseason training have been laid to rest..

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
