WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Featured Replies

I suggested that MFC come put with this about a month ago and there was hardly a whisper on this board only a couple of naysayers; and look at what is happening now that the MFC have publicly come out and stated it.

It just goes to show that MFC do read this board and that a lot of posters react to new news and don't consider any one else's previous thoughts for future happenings.

Some of you should go in to politics.

My current early draft board is (assumed draft order on ladder today):

1. Gold Coast. Whitfield.

2. GWS. Grundy

3. Melbourne. Viney or Wines depending on the below.

4. Melbourne. Toumpas

Whether it's Wines or Viney at three depends on the F/S action. The problem is that we have not got the GWS 'need' of a key ruck. Our 'need' is what GCS will be taking in Whitfield, plus Toumpas or Wines, as they're also needing players of that ilk.

The question is whether either side are willing to hold us over a barrel for their needs. If GWS took Viney, ultimately he'd possibly struggle to get into a midfield chock full of great young mids already. GWS would also risk missing on their biggest need in Grundy - a young, amazing ruckman. GCS, on the other hand, can fill their needs with other players - Whitfield would be fantastic as well as the pending arrival, don't forget, of O'Meara.

Ultimately, GCS can fill their 'need' elsewhere, while GWS risk losing their 'need' by bidding.

Also, anyone who thinks we'll get all of Wines, Viney, Stringer and Toumpas are kidding themselves. We'll get two, three if we're bloody lucky. None of them will last until 13. Best-case in my books is Wines, Viney, Toumpas and Vlastuin slipping to 13.

Maybe I will just look at the site now because it is a waste of time posting if the post will not be taken seriously.

Huh?

Oh diddums....don't be upset skills.

Of course the club read here, Schwab posts here occassionally.

Probably over 100 pages all up on this forum about a kid who may not even play for the MFC

You mean, the ultra-promising son of a former great of the club who desparately wants to be Demon?

Yeah, I am going to post about that.

How much did he tear it up on Friday RP? Was it to your expectation? :P

Didn't see it.

Told it was underwhelming but solid.

Maybe when his jaw heals more from being broken he might be better...

Yes you'r'e right HT.

It was brag gone wrong, just big noting that's all.

Deleted my sook and slapped my wrist for posting when elephant's trunk.

He was pretty good mate, good inside and spreads well. Not Blease fast but not Brock slow either with a good left foot and quick hands, he will be a player don't worry about that.

Would it matter ? Wouldn't you rather judge a player on their multiple years of contributions at junior levels as opposed to one game ? As it is Viney was solid, if a bit rusty, and was named in the best. Even Geelong's skilled players are struggling to display their wares at a windswept stadium with a grandstand missing. Thankfully the next match is at Etihad.

I've seen enough to know that he's exactly what we need. His pace is better than I anticipated, in fact it's good; one of the best junior watches at BF rates him his third best talent in the draft behind only Whitfield and O'Meara, and a "CLEAR top 5 pick"; he played in a premiership team for Prince Alfred's first XV111 when he was in year 9, the first player to do it in 132 years; and last year he was awarded the medal for best on ground in the TAC grand final in a losing team.

But there will always be dolts on here that see the downside in anyone. It's a bit like the public polls where thousands cast a vote. There'll always be a few morons that would release Julian Knight, or Martin Bryant. It's just the way it is.

EDIT: he'd also play virtually the entire year as a 19 year old. Flower and Healy started at 17. Leigh Matthews won a B&F at 19 in a premiership year. I'm not suggesting that he'll be as good as the aforementioned, but I am suggesting that he'll be ready to impact from day one.

When you put it like that he is a must. Good stuff.

It just goes to show that MFC do read this board ...

It doesn't go to show anything.

This board, and everything posted on it, is a complete irrelevance in relation to the internal decisions and workings of the club. Which is as it should be.

My understanding was he isnt back to his previous playing weight either. I might be wrong on that but if so hes not his usual 100% self...just yet

I think the commentary on Friday mentioned something like that, that he was a few kilos lighter since his injury.

Plenty of time for him to beef up again so that he can tear it up for us next season!

when is Viney's next game and is it televised?

Posted this on the wrong thread (some thread about Viney playing at Casey next year) - but interesting I think:

Interesting article on Jimmy Toumpas. Wont be playing much more this year.

http://www.afl.com.a...30/default.aspx

I was particularly interested in his quote:

"I know I've still got a lot of improvement to go and I don't consider myself anywhere near the likes of Lachie Whitfield, Jake Stringer or Joe Daniher. They're a class above me in my opinion."

Starting to sound a bit like Jack Darling (maybe more a Heppell), wonder where the Crows hope to pick him up?

This kid is well in the class of the players mentioned and is already a senior premiership player in the SANFL.

Starting to sound a bit like Jack Darling (maybe more a Heppell), wonder where the Crows hope to pick him up?

Why ? Because of his own comments, or the surgery ?

From what I've read (extensively) and very limited viewing (one game), no-one will be surprised if he's top 5 and he seems a certainty to be top 10.

Beg to differ, both teams are screaming out for instant help to become competative. they can't wait 3 more years to start winning games.

GWS has many 'one year' senior players, who'll be gone this year.

They'll both go with the best players that are ready to go Rnd 1. Whitfield I don't think will impact games straight from the getgo.

Nor will Grundy... Both will need time to harden they're bodies etc.

Of the kids, the ready to go ones will be Toumpas, Vlastuin, Viney, & probably Wines, sound fairly hard.

To me, If I were in they're predicament, I would take Toumpas & Vlastuin/Wines 1st picks.

Both teams will also need to find some cheap mature bodies to help with the physical stuff to help they're kids start to experience some winning.

The Moloney's & JMacs, Sylvias, even the Dunn's & Bates to some extent.

Bater may be lucky, this is a good year for him to come out of contract. But he'll have to move.

I think we may keep JMAC & Dunn for one more season, for the same reasons, or recruit some more in.

So, if this pans out, we may even get a look at Whitfield.

I'd be more than happy with 2 from Whitfield, Toumpas, Stringer, Wines & Vlastuin.

Wines being rated a little too highly based on hype, I think.

Might have pushed his way into the top 10, but not the top 3.

Agree, he will probably be top 5. Maybe a bit of doubt cast with him not playing out the season but I would take a serious look at him for pick 4 if that's what we have and if he is available.

Maybe Port have been in his Shell like.

So do you use pick 3 on a top 10 pick or do you use it on a top 3 pick?

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
