Could our clearances be too predictable

On Sunday we smashed Adelaide in the Clearances, which was mainly due to Jamar and Moloney. Moloney got a world record 19 clearances and clearly was in the top couple of players. But it was clear at nearly every stoppage that Jamar would try and tap it to Moloney. In this game it worked but i feel that games against sides like collingwood, who are very well drilled at stoppages, will easily read this and not allow Moloney easy access of the ball. I personally think that Jamar must change it up a little bit more and feed other players in order for us to have a high level of clearances EVERY week.

But keep up the good work you two clearly top two in the B&F to this point

They've been doing it for awhile (the stat being that they were the #1 ruck-midfielder combo last season) and clearly it still works. I'm cool with it.

If all efforts are put into stopping Moloney, then Sylvia, Jones, Trengove etc.. need to step up and keep pumping it out, it's that simple.

I did have a bit of a smirk when Neil Craig said he tried 4 blokes on Moloney, he is in some red hot form.

I just hope we get that many clearances this week, the ball will go even deeper at Etihad and we have contesting power up forward and some good players on the ground, half the battle will be won.

the thing with beamer is, sometimes jamar does a tap to somebody else and it will get mis-directed but somehow beamer gets it. watch the game again and you'll notice that beamer got a heckload lot of clearances when it wasnt intended for him.

either way as deanox said, it wont be an issue for the next month

Some sides clearly do read Jamar's taps and shark them. You will see that there are three opposing players against one Melbourne player trying to win the clearance. Adelaide was not one of them, but you can't count on that every week.

Roos stated on On the Couch tonight virtually the opposite. He said Jamar is a very difficult ruckman to read with his deft different angle taps (ie. behind, in front, to the side, down below, etc) , he is one of the top 3 ruckmen in the AFL and quite rightly so because he is hard to read. Granted, some may read him better than many others.

Interesting to see what you all think. Against the top sides i feel they position themselves so well at clearances that they shark jamar more than we get it! Plus at the moment, I know Jamar is now gone, Moloney is in amazing form so everything is going right and he seems to be positioning himself perfectly but lets be honest he is unlikely going to keep it up for the next 16 odd rounds.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

    Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
