There must be a reason the club has rookied him?

So i think we'l see him sometime during the season.

Yes.

He was contracted for 2011 but we didn't want him wasting a spot on our senior list.

Get over it people. He sucks. I don't care whether he was on the cusp of selection last year but for injuries. I don't care if he's in form now. He won't perform at AFL level.

Newton is still on our list for one reason, a backup for Stefan Martin if he gets injured or is in terrible form. Currently we only have a few players on our list who are capable of playing that backup ruck/big forward role that's now required.

When some of the younger talls develop he won't be needed anymore, but if Martin goes down he'll come into the team. It's the reason why we chased Hale last year.

I don't think he was given a spot on the list as a backup for Martin.

It may be that Martin has gone past Newton as the second ruck option now.

However, Newton was probably in front of Martin late last year, when the decision was made to offer him a spot on the list.

OH, and he was recently nominated by the club, "the nominated rookie".

Perhaps if he was given the extended opportunities of Jack Watts or Lynden Dunn et al he might then have developed some confidence in his ability and THEN perhaps the VFL Form would equate to AFL Performance!

Oh, and another thing, No doubt Stef Martin has improved out of site when down back or on the Ball Rucking, BUT he absolutely Flounders when played Forward. Juice was BOG against Port Melb and Second BOG against Geelong and IMV would have been selected last week if not rubbed out for an unlucky late contact in a marking contest. The question then would have been, :) Who would he have replaced?? Hnmm I'll let you have a stab at it!

It's amazing how people who want to see Newton come in conveniently ignore the fact that every time he is brought into the side it is on the back of good VFL form, and every time he comes in he fails. Every time. Let me say that one more time, for those who choose not to think about it. Every time. That is why he plays 1-3 games and then goes back to Casey. That is why he was demoted to the rookie list. That is why he isn't in the side right now.

He is no good. Some VFL form doesn't change anything. He is not the future, he is the past. We need to move on, accept that he is not good enough, and think about playing those who will be there when we win our next flag. Jack Watts fits that category. Newton doesn't.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

    TRAINING: Thursday 9th January 2025

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
