The key word in your blurb is HOPE.

They never said they will emulate the past greatness of Brisbane but was hopeful that they could. I hope so too.And I prefer them to say that-than be competitive in the bottom four.

Disagree, good to see those in charge going on the record sticking their necks out and aiming for the top. To be satisfied with just being competitive is a timid safety first approach.

Yes, how dare they raise expectations and aim for the sky! This desire to dominate the competition is making us all feel a bit uncomfortable!

Fear of success is why we haven't won a flag in five decades.

Pretty sure this has been the aim all along (and why not?).

Outlining it doesn't mean that the building blocks will not continually be built upon or ignored.

Could not disagree more. Dean Bailey was an absolutely inspired appointment, and his rhetoric about the list and the club is always considered and entirely appropriate.

The Dees should now enjoy a period of sustained success, and much of this will be due to Dean Bailey's skill and focus on restructuring, what was, a pretty pathetic list. He saw it - not many of us did.

There's a Hun article today about James Hird's strategy for Esendon, and it sounds very similar to what we've seen with our club over the past few years.

Even the way he personaly intends to spend a lot of time ttoring players one-on-one, as we have often seen from Bailey.

I know we're not alone in a lot of the things we do, but it did come across to me that we are being used as a benchmark.

I think it's perfect timing to graduate from competitiveness to consistency and then to excellence.

We are seeing the club up the ante, Sylvia, Bailey etc. The list is partially developed and more or less complete. The timing and the words chosen will have been carefully considered. These are sentences not said on a whim. Bailey and his cohorts will have had a plan at the very beginning, this is merely another progression in the plan.

It's time to start to believe it and stop thinking like losers.

The thing I really, really like about Dean Bailey is that he has always been measured and pragmatic about where our list is at, and most importantly, to date he has always been correct in making these assessments. I trust his judgement, and have every confidence that he will not allow players to get ahead of themselves. The fierce competetion which I expect for spots in our best 22 means that any players who deviate from the path that has set for them will very quickly find themselves at Casey. My feeling is that what Bails has said is a smart and calculated statement, designed motivate players to get that extra 1% out of themselves when the situation demands it.

With the list we've had, I don't think we've had much of a chance to judge Bailey on game day. Certainly when we got things right last year we looked great. But not every team poos their pants when they find out they're playing the mighty Dees (a la Collingwood) and there will be times where we need to employ plan B (Daniher could never find it in his filing cabinet). I think Bailey does have a plan B (and probably C and D) I'm just hoping for no more half-baked losses to crap teams! Last year there were games where we stuck with something not far off Pagan's paddock for way too long after it was clear it just wasn't working. Eventually we'd throw Green (or others) down as the lone forward and suddenly things started happening...

I agree with Bailey's strategy. I see it is part of the escalating mindgame with kevin sheedy who is no doubt sleighted by his non-appointment as Melbourne coach and would see getting scully as perfect payback. scully's management need to see it in their client's issue to get this issue resolved.

There's a difference in saying that he wants us to win a premiership and talking about becoming 'team of the decade'. Let's win a final first, then the first flag before we start talking about a whole swag of premeirships?

Maybe Bailey realises, rather astutely, that we need to set our sights higher?

If we honestly think we have a side capable of winning multiple flags, and we set the bar at just winning one, what happens after that..?

The goal you have been striving for has been achieved, and it is natural to relax a little after that.

We don't want to be like Hawthorn in 08.

I think their biggest problem since was that they felt like they'd achieved what they set out to do.

New goals are set, but I think some individuals set different goals and the team wasn't on the same page.

1st Jimmy calling for 40,000 members and now Bailey stating our intentions of a decade of dominance .

Strong clubs have the confidence to make their intentions clear and even stronger clubs bring it to fruition .

I'd have to say I'm happy to see a bit of arrogance back at the club, I'm sick to death of the attitude we've had over the last 50 years of almost being apologetic if we win.

For such a long time now we've been the laughing stock of the competition and rightly so, we've had coaches who were humble, captains who were humble, and supporters that were considered by all other supporters to be innocuous. Nice club, nice supporters, nice players and not really all that passionate so they don't mind if they lose.

We are the most important club in the competition but other clubs think of us as a nothing club, one that will never threaten to win a flag and one that will fold as soon as the pressure is applied. That has to change.

When I see supporters of rubbish teams like St Kilda and Fremantle suggest we are a minnow club and should merge with North or the Bulldogs it really gets up my nose.

My thoughts exactly RobbieF, if we want more members in the future we have to be in the competions face , and rubbing their noses in it .

a) There is nothing outlandish about his statements. It is well recognised that we have possibly the best list in the competition, and similar comments have been made about us from other members of 'the fotball world' (hate that term!)

B) As others have noted, it is about time we showed some confidence. If Bailey does not show confidence how can he expect his boys to play with the confidence they should.

Collingwood is never backward in coming forward.

Richmond think they'll have something like 2 premierships and 70K members in 5 years.

Precisely, North failed to capitalize on their success in the 90's and have one of the worst membership numbers and game attendances of any club in the comp. On the other hand Hawthorn have an air of arrogance about them and look at their current membership numbers and their game attendances.

We cannot remain in the shadows forever. I have no problem at all with that article. The Club is changing from 2nd to 3rd gear so to speak.

It's time to step out in the light, as long as the players and Footy Dept are focused for it.

I am all for confidence and aiming high, but as CTD mentioned, let's make the finals first. The last thing you want is players running around thinking about how they are going to celebrate their Premiership three-peat. The focus, both publicly and behind closed doors should be the job at hand, all the other stuff will come later.

And no, it's not a poor title for a thread, it is a fair and justified opinion to have.
