WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

I think she may be wrong on that one. Someone will punt we will take him with our 2nd round, especially a SA club, who would probably be happy to have him if we declined.

Do Adelaide still have draft penalties this year? If so its only Port at pick 12-18 we'd have to worry about.

I don't think we have to worry about specifically SA clubs.

That thinking was maybe relevant 20 years ago.

It's a national game now.

no, they are back in the draft, as they surrendered picks when Tippett left.

It was a good typo so I'll leave it there! Maybe he will go Ok on Demon master chef next season, who knows.

GRRM I appreciate your comment. Not all players need to bulk up but they need to be strong enough to play. Hopefully his frame is suitable, I don't know enough about that sort of thing to pass judgement.

i still refer to him as 'that traitorous f..k'.

absolutely loathe him for walking out as he did.

How did you view Jeff White ?

If there is a club that rates Billy before our second pick we'll have to use it.

If no club rates him first round, we only have to worry about clubs who finish lower than us on the ladder rating him round 2: i.e. St Kilda, GWS, Lions - at the moment. Anything other than that scenario would see him go Round 3.

no problems with white because unlike thompson he didn't threaten to sign with west coast (like thompson did with richmond) for a year with the agreement that they'd trade him back to a melbourne club (or adelaide in the traitor's case) at the end of the year.

freo did very, very well out of trading white. pick 2, which they on-traded to the tigers for chris bond. oops...

didn't realise that Thompson did that - I thought he got homesick and asked to be traded back to Adelaide.

I reckon you're right. I'll find out.

I could live with that.

And if we use our second pick? Will you commit suicide?

Thanks. That's what I said. Next time feel free to press the "Like" button.

Dont thinknhe did that.

I was under that impression too, and if I remember correctly we traded him really early on and got it done and out of the way. Happy to stand corrected though.

My brother, who knows the family, told me that Scotts father fell out with Neil Balme (correction - Neale Daniher) because Balme (Daniher) kept playing Scotty injured.

The dad said "play him again injured and he will never play for Melbourne again". And so it happened.

Now this is hearsay but I believe my brother.

Edit:- Must not get my Neils Neales confused.

Neil Balme? Didn't realise Scott Thompson was playing in the mid 90's.... I think you might mean Neale Daniher...

Did not know that either !

Anyone get to one of the U18 games to see Billy play? He was getting some harsh reviews from SA posters on bigfooty for his poor footskills early on. Seemed to go alright in the one SANFL game I saw him play, but most of his disposals were handballs.

Sorry bout that, I stand corrected.

Is everyone on this site a sanctimonious [censored] or is it only reserved for the special few.

There are some good posters on here but a majority seem to be sad wankers whose entire lives revolve around having petty semantic arguments with strangers online or trying to assert some kind of moral/intellectual superiority over others. Heres a tip, unless you're gonna share an opinion of your own and not just ridicule the opinions/thoughts/musings of others just shut the [censored] up you dont actually have to comment on every little thing.

I think you just did what you are complaining about.

Well, I laughed.

  • So Pickett fence has friends who have friends who have friends.....wow.....ground breaking stuff, maybe we shouldn't go near Billy Stretch then.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
