More like the MFC is not used to being in the Big world, we used the junction oval for way too long.

Other clubs seem to do alright on their own in terms of training facilities, or have they all been underwritten by the state & Federal Govts?

I would have thought a 3-4 way split for AAMI park would have made excellent sense for running costs.

you can sell your lease like land...when you sign a lease you avoid having to pay stamp duty...one of the main attractions to having a lease.

You might be able to transfer your lease (not sure that you can "sell" it but stamp duty hasn't been payable on leases for years.

As far as I can gather, one of the only clubs that actually own their own facilities is StKilda at Moorabbin. Although that will soon change with their change to seaford, but they still own the land of which they have some commercial plans on the site. What a great position to be in.

All other clubs either seem to be leasing or operating the sites under the local councils that own the land and facilities.

IIRC the Docklands development was an idea of Mayor Robert Doyle, a big Liberal man. So it would be even more likely now you would think.

Maybe I should have been clearer: the master's suggested dream situation makes no sense to me.

I don't have any issue with the current facility, but I have no issue with moving to a docklands facility if it is just as good or better and is more financially viable.

There are some fantastical suggestions of us developing the MOPT precint to better promote us as a club that will never come close to happening.

They are pure fantasy.

I don't live in Melbourne, so am interested in knowing Demonlanders' thoughts on whether the proposed development reported in The Age would make a move to Docklands a significantly more attractive proposition.

Maybe if that Guy guy (planning minister) is a Melbourne supporter he can sort us out with a ground/training base there. Worked for Collingwood with Brumby.

I am sure that the club will ensure that we are financially advantaged should we move. In the latest upgrade to the Tennis precinct they are going to complete the footbridge and get it to go over Swan Street, or is that Olympic Boulevard, to AAMI Park. Whilst it has been a cherished dream to have the whole club in one building, a quick walk across a footbridge is pretty damn close.
