Niners sign McCaffrey, cheap this year, 12mil next year.

Surprised a bit by this as it takes away the role Deebo plays very very well.

I don't think it will hurt Deebo, they don't want him in the backfield too much especially until the playoffs. What they can do is line up McCaffrey and Deebo both in the backfield or motioning to the backfield and come up with a heap of route combinations.

I'm more surprised they were willing to give up so much draft capital for this last desperate Jimmy G year when you have to think they need picks to support Lance in future years.

Lions look like they have scored, get a really bad spot the 1yrd when it at worst should be inches, then fumble on the very next play. Why the [censored] with three time outs down by 4 do you not challenge it or at least take the time to ensure it’s not a score.

Panthers trade out WR AND RB, tanking right?
well they are 21-3 up vs the Buccs and averaging 8.4yrds per carry!!!

Crazy! Just bloody crazy!

Great fit, but if they think they are one RB piece away from a Superbowl team they are kidding themselves.

For me the niners are a funny team, they have most of the parts, except for the QB, they hope that is Lance, but he is injured and Jimmy G is solid without being spectacular. The problem is when they run into the better Defensive teams ie chiefs, bills etc they have to score enough to match their opponents offence. Even with a great defence teams like the chiefs, Bills are going to put 20+ points on you min.

Niners can get better as they get some players back, don’t think they can beat the bills or chiefs who I think win the SB this year.

the most interesting thing for me is hitting that window when you have the young players on the rookie contracts to compliment the established stars. Next two years they will have some players looking for a payday.

Dolphins, Pats, Titans

Just when the Jets were becoming fun we lose our #1 offensive weapon Hall and AVT - Davis injured too but not sure whether he's ok to suit up this week or not.

Zach looked terrible against the Broncos but they do have a formidable defence - I'm expecting similar this week against Belichick on the rebound after losing to the Bears at home (great game!) Belichick has made an art form of making young QBs (and young Jets QBs) look stupid and I expect this to continue on Monday

Has anyone ever gone pointless in the tipping comp? I think I'm giving it a big shake this season.

I once only had 1 point after 11 weeks but ended up having the 3rd most points by seasons end

From memory a couple went 10 weeks without scoring points and both had won the comp the previous year (the winners curse?)

Well another game where our D give up lots of big broken plays, miss a billion tackles and give up dumb penalties.

Stafford in the second half is 3/11.

Still no run game, McVay has no idea how to win when he can’t pass heavy.
We are on the verge of missing playoffs.

Ive somehow missed half a season of tips! Ill jump back in next week...

Amazing triple crown of TDs for Christian McCaffrey this morning, rushing, receiving AND passing TD. First time anyone's done it since LaDainian Tomlinson all the way back in 2005. If he can stay fit, and given he's only been learning the playbook for just over a week, will be well worth the investment.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
