Barry Hall: Fairy Floss

Everyone keeps harping on about how tough big bustling Barry Hall is, and watching the game last night, I was hoping he'd bump a few Collingwoog blokes. But all he did was get reported for swearing!!!

Then I tried to think about the tough stuff he's done, and all I could think of was a backhander to Staker, and crashing into a few full-backs' backs. Has he ever done a good shirtfront? Has he ever taken a mark running back into the pack like J. Brown? Just because he's ugly, and tattooed, and likes boxing, everyone says he's tough.

He disappointed me against Collingwood. I was hoping he'd shake Pendlebury or Thomas's bones.

He did lay one in the goal square which i would be suprised if it was not cited-but then again he did play in the 2005 Grand Final!!!

Thats right, but it wasn't a backhander that decked Staker, it was a beautiful punch that took him down, Unfortunately it was an act of thuggery. One of the few times he's actually done that thuggery stuff. Mostly he's huff 'n' puff, push n' shove with a bit of niggle & glaring talk.

He's just a good big tall forward who lacks the necessary support to get the Doggies across the line.

He is good in the ring.

On the field he has to try and shut that part of himself out otherwise he will crack and do another Staker act.

But no, he was always a lead up forward never a brute forward like a Carey, Brown etc

Great post. I remember the number Yze and Neitz and others did on him when he played for the Saints. O'Brien called his bluff and Big Bazza managed to abuse an umpire! Can't do it for Doggies when it counts! Poor selection... Ackabwas a better choice. Dogs continue to shoot themselves in the foot!

You mean the 98 semi in front of the MCC??

I think Barry is actually quite soft. It was well known at St. Kilda that he was. Yes he is big and can throw a punch that doesnt make you tough! I can;t remember him going back with the flight and taking a mark ala J.Brown or Rivers even!

Oh, you mean that final against Us @ the 'G' when he did his Nana, then we got on top & won. That game he was traveling to the ground, driving his car, with fellow teammates in the car in Punt Rd near Swan St trying to get across to turn down Brunton Ave but I had him Boxed In, & kept him locked away on the wrong side of the road with the look away block & stay maneuver, he was very frustrated & missed his turn point. The things you do.

That was No beutiful Punch

It was a cowardly King Hit against a bloke not expecting Contact.

He is a thug & should never have been allowed to play in the 2005 GF

As much as I despise everything Collingwood, good on Harry O for standing up to the frustrated Old Man.

Harry O only stood up to him cos he knew that Barry would not do anything, he would not do the same in a environment like a ring.

Harry O is a [censored], babbles on about respect and treating everyone nice and saving the world and crap then abuses people out on the field.

Two faced really and if he gets smashed in a game I'll cheer.

You obviously didn't read what I posted, & it was thuggish. But he is not a thug by the standards of old tough men. Hall is way behind and would not be considered as a thug compared to them.

It wasn't cowardly, but is certainly unacceptable & was totally out of order for the game.

IMO, he not a thug, but a bit of a bully boy. Very much similar to the way BT played the game.

I suggest you check your hatred & Bias to see what you find.

Yep, super post.

It's very easy to gob off at someone when you know they can't do anything back at you.

All O'B did was bump Hall from his blind side when Barry was chasing a Collingwood player. Apparently that makes O'B think he should give Baz a mouthful while he is laying on the ground.

Nothing wrong with the sheppard, but the follow up spray was pretty weak from O'B.

But I suppose in a final, anything goes. I noticed Collingwood were very lippy the other night.

Not just O'B but "Captain Courageous" Maxwell and even Swan were gobbing off at stages. I wonder if they will be as lippy in a couple of Saturdays time against Geelong.

Harry O'Brien is a [censored] and all about his own words.

Again, he used those cheap words to get into Barry's face. If anyone is weak it is this d-head. Probably one of the reasons we have Greens voted in, in Melbourne.

D-head!

maxwell is the worst of the lot. as us dees fans have seen, if you put someone on him he looks 1/3 the player he looked the other night when running free.

Hey,I'd hate him to lay one on you or I.

Hey,I'd hate him to lay one on you or I.

So would I, but there's a diffence between say him & Plugger or Roger Merret, Ronny Andrews, & some Hitmen along the way.

Lets not confuse Intimidation with consistent thuggery.

When I heard that Harry O'Brien wanted a meeting with Barack Obama, that's when I knew he was a complete and utter [censored].

Going around sniping at people behind play with dumbass sledges that aren't funny, isn't the most courageous act one could do either...

O'Brien is a prat and he fits in well at the Scum...

Disagree Dee-luded

Barry Halls king hit on Staker was a weak cowardly act.

There was no Bullying there he simply king hit the kid.

Could of killed him smashing him in the temple like that.

As for your last line, too deep for me man. What are you talking about ?

Edited by Old Man Rivers

Just watched footage of the hit on harry O and does his head whip away and chringe big time.

He shat himself.

Might keep his mouth shut next time.

When Barry Hall is/was on song he would take the ball at full tilt and iron out anyone who got in his way usually on the lead. He also did much the same when the ball was on the ground.

Obviously a thug, but also a very good footballer as stated when on song. Not however in the slightest bit soft. Would have loved a mentally stable Hall at the dees.

The problem with Barry is he doesn't run through blokes to get the footy, like the big old full forwards. But the has changed from the need to do that as much. But in a final, get your mates to kick to you up the corridor and run through whatever is standing in front of you. Strong aggression at the footy, he might not get the first few but he'll get more space in front.

Spot on about being twofaced and I 2 would love to see him smashed . Earlier in the year he was campaigning in the media against carrying knives etc. which is fair enough .

On 7's sunday morning footyshow he was asked if he could beat Hall in a fight , "Do I have weapons ?" he asked.

Fine example Harry .

Any ****wit can throw a punch.

With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
