Maybe you should go and live in Indonesia, where the laws regarding drug trafficking might be more to your liking. But first ask yourself what really is so bad about someone buying their friend a little bit of something that makes them happy, and please think beyond the fact that it's illegal.

Thats silly. If it is illegal then it is illegal, you can't think beyond that! Regardless of whether you (or me) think it should be illegal or not it is, and until people are prepared to face the consequences of their actions and accept some responsibility, we will keep seeing people potentially wreck their careers or lives. Standing on your soap-box is not going to help anyone

Laws are only laws until they are opposed by enough people to get the law changed. What Rosa Parkes did was illegal, but she raised the question of whether there should be a punishment for something that isn't really hurting anyone. If something is considered "wrong", I think it's more than necessary to wonder what the world would be like if it wasn't. Otherwise, how could false assumptions ever be changed? Brendan Fevola has nearly wrecked his life legally multiple times, and Cameron Stokes has nearly wrecked his life illegally, doing something less damaging to himself than many people do with everyday consumption of legal prescription and recreational drugs. The only difference is the legality (often based on no more than historical convention) of the means by which said "destruction" has taken place.

I'm really, really deeply uncomfortable with what is basically bragging about something that we as fans have so little knowledge of and less control over, and which is so immensely fragile.

I'm proud of the club's visible culture, I've been proud of just about everything I've heard from the club for a couple of years now.

But it's not a pride that goes to blowing our own trumpet. Your reputation isn't settled 'til your dead. Sometimes not even then.

Well, that's exactly why he was charged with 'trafficking'. He panicked. He would've been better off keeping his mouth shut until he got legal advice...Who knows?? I'm sure AFL players would meet all kinds of people with all the socializing they do.

The Lazy legal partner could not be bothered getting out of bed, so he called an employee who was barely out of school to attend the station. He remained quiet and did not advise his client to do the same, as the player broke down and said that he was buying the drugs for his friends, he then went on to name six other players at his club, one who is rumoured to be looking to move north to work on his tan, as people who buy from the same dealer. Police loved the story, but could not take any further action due to lack of evidence. The club was not impressed with the legal team, and blame them for the problem. They are aware of the player behaviour, and have no problem with is as long as the team is winning.

Obviously this story has nothing to do with anything mentioned in this thread.

Stokes wasn't 'trafficking' drugs mate.

He bought a very small amount of cocaine for a friend coming down from the NT. The charge was a joke, and even the courts understood that.

He's a good guy...

I also don't see the Travis Tuck thing as a 'discipline' issue. The guy had been receiving treatment for depression prior to this incident. You have to understand the cuthroat, high-stakes nature of being an AFL player and the effect this has on a lot of players.

Travis has been suffering from depression, and then he's virtually told his career as a footballer is over at the age of what, 21,22??

Oh please !!! Firstly on Stokes 'He was just buying it for a friend' only a parent would believe this. He just happened to have a drug dealers number in his phone and only bought a small bag ?? If you buy and then sell drugs its called trafficking regardless of how you spin it. So I will show no such sympathy.

Secondly, I am no expert on depression but it is a fact that depression is a by product of drug abuse so claiming he is using drugs to combat depression is a cop out. The incident needs to be looked at for what it is, This stupid young MAN was using a drug by himself in his car so it would be safe to assume he was going to drive this car whilst under the influence of this highly potent drug thus putting people at risk.

2. You are right in saying that you're not an expert on 'depression', and I'd doubt you're an expert on anything at all.

You know 'nothing' about Tuck's personal circumstances. It is a known fact that people suffering from depression often use drugs and alcohol to try and combat often debilitating mood swings. The fact you haven't grasped this BASIC fact regarding depression shows you have no idea what you're talking about. He had been seeking help for a period of time leading up to the incident, so its not an excuse at all.

I'm sure he gets it. He is (as I am) grateful that when a player is on the front and back pages of the newspapers for drugs, sexual assaults or alcohol fuelled idiocy it's not one of ours. It is you that doesn't grasp that whether a footballer spends his off time snorting coke off a hooker or visiting sick kids it is completely out our hands as supporters and as such we are just damn happy none of the bad stuff (if there is any) is making news and hurting the club. Surely it isn't that hard to understand?
