If we beat Richmond next week ...

So Carlton and Sydney deserve to be in the finals??

Not if they have a losing season ( ie lose more games than they win).

What a ridiculous statement. We ran collingwood in both games and should have beaten the Westies. If we have enough points we deserve to play in september.

Do Carlton, Sydney or Hawthorn deserve to be there on your theory???

See above. Not so ridiculous. We ran Collingwood close once. Weren't good enough to win. We ran the Bullies close once and again weren't good enough to win. We should have been 10 goals down against the Pies the second time around at half time. We still weren't good enough to win. Don't get me wrong, the performances were great and a drastic improvement on years gone by. I took many positives from them, but ultimately, and Dean Bailey said as much in the post game interviews each time, Yes we ran teams close but we weren't good enough to beat them.

young teams are inconsistent. everyone at the club has worked hard. getting there and being knocked out will give them more of a taste for it

I am not knocking how hard they work or where the club is headed.

For years it took 12 wins to make the finals. A winning season so to speak (12-10). It is only the last couple that have seen teams slip in with a losing season.

I always want us to play to win. And if teams above us keep falling over and we make it then so be it.

As i said i just don't think teams with a losing record deserve it, Melbourne or anyone else. It rewards mediocrity and that is not what we are about as a club........

If we have more points at the end of the season that eight other Clubs then I think we deserve the place in the 8 more than any of those other teams. Think about... no seriously.

The 12 wins concept in recent years has also been thrown by the dominance of a couple of teams - Geelong and St Kilda last year, and then Geelong and Collingwood this year, "hogging" all the wins...thus there are less wins for middle of the range teams, and a lower number will get you through.

We ran collingwood close twice, which is way better than any other side this year. How should we have been down by 10 goals at Half Time on QB?? Yes i remember a flat spot, but the Team Fired up so give credit.

What we have to learn is to play 14 other sides with the same commitment, no matter where the games are played.

That's what Geelong do-they don't care who they play, they just play to a standard week after week

Ha. Yes Rhino that is right. But do we really? Think about it.......

Go back to the game and watch. Collingwood smashed us for a half but kept missing. You were at another game if you didn't see that. I gave them credit for fighting back then and i still do. But bottom line we weren't good enough to win. Getting close doesn't win you grand finals. Winning the close ones does.

I agree with the rest of your post and that in essence is part of the reasoning behind mine.

where were collingwoods shots from??? It is all good they take shots but if they aren't gettable it's pointless taking them.

The dogs game and the early pies game has been discussed, certain decisions by a few involved prevented it from going another way from players, coaches and umpires...

As has been alluded to by Rhino et al, we may not "deserve" to make the finals, but neither do any of the other jokers currently occupying the 7-9 positions. I'd be pretty stoked if we pushed them out of the way.

Yes, I'd be pretty happy. I would imagine most would. Considering we dealt with Sydney in sending them packing with a 73 point thumping - not to mention other games of interest this season; if we end up with enough Premiership points in the bank by the end of season, we'll have earned the right to play finals.

It is that simple. They are the rules.

We weren't good enough to win on QB because The Filth kicked the last goal-before that we were in front.

I would so dearly love to play Collingwood again this september. They would be very worried.

I hate the filth and would love to beat them.

We should never have been close to them on QB but they kept missing goals (some from easy positions). And even though they allowed us to stay in the game, we still weren't good enough to win it.

Don't know that they would be worried but hey if we make it then anything is possible...

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
