Which Melbourne players are out of contract at this season's end??

Recommended Posts

jamar has resigned, did so about a month or so ago

Hey BB! Do you enjoy putting the wind up people? Or, does your keyboard simply lack a hyphen??

Yep, gotta love the English language! That sneaky little hyphen (or lack of one) can create such mischief!!

Happily, The big Russian did NOT resign! He re-signed...!

Phew!!!

Short description of what I would do with each below

M. Warnock - 2 year contract

C. Bruce - 1 year contract

N. Jones - 2 year contract

J. Watts - 2 year contract

M. Bate - 2 year contract

B. Miller - trade/delist

P. Johnson - trade only if value or 1 year contract

D. Bell - delist

B. Moloney - 2 year contract

J. McDonald - Junior's decision

R. Bail - 1 year contract

S. Blease - 1 year contract

J. Strauss - 1 year contract

T. McNamara - trade only if value or 1 year contract

J. Spencer - promote

M. Newton - delist

D. Hughes - retain if we can, otherwise delist with great sadness

J. Meesen - delist

J. McKenzie - promote

R. Healey - retain as rookie

Agree with most but Id liek to sure up Strauss and Blease for a little bit longer as they are so young. 2 years?

See your point with the ages, but also need them to know they have to earn the longer contracts. Blease is yet to play a game and Strauss has played less than a handful. Whilst they haven't shown nothing, they need to show a lot for mine to earn the 2 year contract.

I'm afraid you're going to have to be a little harsher with the delistings there.

As you've got it pegged we're still 1 delisting short of the minimum turnover required by the AFL which is 3.

Also those you have as "trade/delist", they would only be charity trades to assist change of clubs since we wouldn't be able to use the draft picks we're getting in return. Essentially they are just delistings.

So we have to de-list at least 3 players at seasons end from the senior list??

Yes.

Also keep in mind when playing fantasy manager with the list, how many picks you want to take in this year's draft.

I don't envy Tim Harrington's job one bit this year.

Wow....assuming we are promiting Jordie and (maybe (should we have 3 rucks on senior list)) Spence and we want 3 picks from the draft.....

AH THIS IS TOO HARD SOMEONE ELSE DO IT!

Thanks Tim Harrington =)

Ah, but you're forgetting that Watts is going to the GC. That takes care of the extra spot on the list. :D

also we are forgetting that, promoting rookies to the senior list can now be counted as one of the 3 draft picks in the national draft/psd draft.. so i would assume we would promote mckenzie with our 3rd round pick which will be in the 50's/60's, and use the 1st 2 picks. just a matter of finding 3 spots on the list,

i can see us delisting mcnamara to the rookie list, then the other 2 is maybe junior (with green to the veterans list, which counts as a rookie spot), bell gone, then its one of these johnson? miller? cheney/maric (harsh but something has to be done)

I know you're joking but watching Watts after the game there is no way he's going anywhere. Did you see him give his ball to the kid in the crowd? Delivered it and then talked and talked and talked until his team mates ran around to catch up, then doubled back to high five more of the crowd. I thought it was fantastic.

Miller, Someone to GC, Meesen, Newton, Bell, Hughes, Cheney,Mcdonald

I would expect all these to be gone at year's end. That's 6 and 2 rookies.

Harrington's job just got easier!

4 and 3 rookies Roost It.

And one of those is the unnamed GC17 paoching, which I don't think is likely to happen.

I can't see many on our list that wouldn't want to stay for the ride in the next 5 years.

You'd have to be pretty certain you wouldn't be able to claim a spot considering where we'll soon be sitting.

Look at Geelong - Byrnes, Wojcinski, Hawkins, Gamble, Varcoe, Motlop, Hogan, Djerkurra have all shown a lot of talent but not left them. The only losses of note are Mumford and Prismall over that whole period of success.

Meesen, Newton & Hughes from your list are all rookies.

You have only made 3 changes with Miller, Bell & Junior.

With McKenzie promotion that leaves a 1st & 2nd round pick. If you want Spencer as well that's only 1 pick.

Also, can people please, please stop proposing the fictional "delist to rookie list" so regularly?? It's just not going to happen this year. There is only delisting and re-signing. No in-between.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
