One the demons list, excluding Jurrah and Meeson who is injured and new players . Cheney,Bell,Marric,Macnamara have not played a game yet this season

Who will get a game next and whats happening with Bell?

Just from reading the Casey reports it sounds like Cheney has been the best consistently but McNamara and Maric aren't doing a whole heap wrong. Problem with Cheney is that if you count Morton as a mid sized defender we currently have Morton, Frawley, Garland, Bruce and Grimes ahead of him in the side, and Joel Mac doing as good as Cheney in the VFL. Simply for the reason Maric might sneak a game first, but I doubt it.

All 3 I'd just mention probably deserve some game time, but then again we should try to get Strauss, Wona, Bail + Bennell who got dropped this week back for more games and I'd love to see Blease and Tapscott. Problem with all these mid sized/smalls on our list is that if any of them actually step up and make a mark at AFL level they will get a big chance to cement their spots, meaning others may fall by the wayside.

Bell (who is being played as an inside midfielder) seems to be tracking ok as well. But surely we don't have to go back to him again. I presume he is playing out the rest of the year with Casey before being moved on. Sadly it appears he just wasn't quiet up to AFL level. Managed to ilk out nearly a decade by being part of a dud side, having what seems to be a professional attitude and playing maybe half a dozen good games one year (07 maybe).

I think Strauss next, but Cheney is the best performed, but they seem to be holding him back. I don't think he's as attacking as the players they seem to be choosing ATMO, so I think there playing the attacking players first to blood them & see what they've got. IMO Cheney is a required player & they know what he's got. I think he'll be the tough rugged small/med defender.

Other than Strauss, IMO Maric is getting close, but needs to work harder, it seems to me, on his endurance.

You omitted Bartram. His selection baffles me as if untouchable. I'd like to see Cheney in his spot. I believe he is a better runner - speed and endurance - than Cheney, but Cheney is clearly a better footballer. Somebody on the radio/TV stated that no forward has kicked a goal on him this year, but if the football department believes that statistic then pity help us. He turned the ball over to enable the doggies kick the winning goal against us. Last week he turned it over twice for goals to the blues. Statistics tell many stories. I think the FD believes that if they put enough games into him he'll become a good fottballer.

So are you my friend.

I am was not a big Bartram fan at the end of last year and thought he was lucky to get another contract.

However, his performance have been good this year and the statistic that no forward he has picked up has kicked a goal on him is indeed a telling one. Clearly the footy dept see things on the ground you cant fathom. The best you can do is a blame game "lost us the match" error.

No wonder you are pining for Cheney. Cheney is an honest hard at footballer without a defining skill at this point in time that makes him a must have at AFL. Cheney is not quick by AFL standards and he must have a big tank if he has more endurance than Bartram. I dont see him taking the smalls and while capable overhead for his size I cant see him displacing our other options we have for taller forwards. I am trying to work out who Cheney ideally matches up on. Bartram might not have made the small defender spot sewn up but he has done pretty well in the process this year. At this point in time, the Footy dept rightly select him.

Do you honestly believe that Cheney won't turn it over in our back half. In the games I've seen him play he's shown a spectacular lack of good judgment. He is a very strong one-on-one competitor, but when he wins the ball he is prone to doing some truly bizarre things with it. Kicking across goal and missing the target seems to be a specialty. Quite often he has charged across and won the ball again to rectify the mistake, but in the AFL he won't get that chance.

I just wish we could combine Cheney's defensive and contested work with Straus's disposal. We'd have a matchwinner on our hands then.

Sounds like Luke Hodge.

Hehe. It never ceases to amaze me how players seem to become more in mind when they go out of sight. The rose coloured glasses definitely come out.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
