What a terrific strategy for player retention. Make finals.

Quick, someone write a letter to the Club suggesting they make Finals.

I don't think any Demons will go to GC. Short of that I don't think any required Demons will go to GC.

Whatever happens is of no on-going consequence to the MFC.

The MFC, at the moment, has no guns, no bankable players. We also have no one player we cannot afford to lose. If Petterd goes, we will have a number of replacements by the end of the year.

Ditto for any mid or defender.

Unless you have the hots for a particular player, none of this matters. :o

Would not like to see Trengove leave MFC or for that fact a bakers dozen either. To be honest, im not fussed if Petterd stays or goes, we have a few fwds coming through so im happy..

Frawley, in my eyes, is virtually irreplaceable.

I certainly sing from the same tune. A real find. Have the same opinion of Jack Grimes too. Would you believe that one or two want him demoted to Casey this week ?

Never, ever thought you could choke on a cornflake, until I read that.

good thing they are not selecting the side week by week, the MFC would have used the entire list by now if it were up to the forum members.

At the end of the day, a player who doesn't want to play for your club is as useful as a player missing a leg.

If Ricky wants out, we should try and get the best possible deal for him and move on. We can convince a player to stay with more money and the lure of future success, but if their heart is not in the MFC what is the point of them being here? Should Ricky be more driven by being close to family and friends than being part of something great at Melbourne, well so be it.

To be honest I don't think we'll lose anyone of value to the GC, both because we have salary cap room to front-load contracts and because I believe our players can see the bright road ahead.

Ricky told me personally & to a group of others that he loves the club & being here, & wants to stay.

Well Good, let us see how true to his word he is at years end.

There is a very old saying-"Every Man has his price" & GC17 have a lot of ready to throw around The AFL have TOLD them to spend up....so it will be interesting.

To be honest, if GC17 throws more money at him than we are willing to pay and he wants it, then fine.

He's good, but not good enough to want to pay over the odds for him when we have some much talent we need to squeeze into the cap going forward.

The GC are not going to throw any serious money at any of our players. For heavens sake!

And Trengove etc are on 2+ yr contracts, so are out of reach (for now).

Guys, take a bex and have a good lie down. :o

All I want to know is what will we get for Him when he goes (almost certaiy is going from what I've been told from gold coast sources). Do we get nothing for him or do we get a draft pick. If we get a pick, what do you think that would be?

I think with the way the comopeenstaion system will work we'll get a second round draft pick only in a few seasons time.

That's ok, but i don't necessarily agree.

I think GC17 may come to a point where they are desperate for signings and just start throwing extra cash at players to get them over the line.

It'd be less disasterous for them to pay a little too much for a few players than to wind up with no decent signings.

Petterd would be seen as one of those who are 'within reach' so more worthwhile to focus their energies on.

IF they actually want him.

There's also the chance that people get sold, or traded if you wyll, like one very recent one.

For the last time, could we please drop the notion that only our Queensland-born players are on the GC's target list? If they want someone, they'll have a go at them regardless of where they were born or whether or not they have some sort of ancient or otherwise fragile link to the state.

Ablett's not from Queensland.

I think there is a formula based on several things including draft positions and best and fairest results, so basically the better the player the better the future pick. IF he goes, his injury could mean we get less than we may of, as he was looking pretty good in the b&f before the injury.

We may need to fudge the B & F results and have him finish 3rd or something despite only playing the 6 games. Ala McLean in 2008.

I agree, that's why I had Frawley and Jamar in the poll along with a section for any other uncontratced Melbourne player.

You do have to admit though, that surely the go home factor does play into it. I know if I was drafted interstate and then had the chance to return home I'd look at it very seriously. Especially if I was a player on Sydney's list. I hate that city!!!!

Ricky will be wishing he had a signature on paper with someone right now.

Not necessarily.

No team will sign him based on his likely output for the rest of this season, rather it'd be for seasons going forward.

There's no reason why you wouldn't expect him to make a fully recovery from this injury.

His value would have risen if he had of playeed 22 games this year in the same form as the first 5. Hard to pay a bloke big dollars after a few good games, an operation and then almost 12 months between serious games (asuming he is out for the year).

With no facts of any sort to back it up, maybe he does have a signed contract sitting somewhere????

how the tables have turned, refused to sign an extended contract with the MFC, now he is out for 12 weeks, if not more. GC would certainly re consider picking up a player that has 2 busted shoulders.

From Rickys twitter:

Not the results i was lookin 4, still a bit hard to swallow.Already lookin forward to putting on the red n blue in 2011! thanks for the msg!

Seems keen to stay reading that

Of course he's going to say something like that, he's hardly going to post - "Well no more work for me this year, looking forward to the big cash injection from GC next year and wearing whatever colours they wind up with!!".

That said, I believe Ricky will still be with us next season.

Or he could have just said nothing, stating it is a pretty good sign

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
