Media Blowtorch Applied To Bailey...

get real....fair dinkum..the media are doing what the media do. They ARENT the ones failing on the field..they are the ones who are responsible for coaching the team. They are commentators and observers...in essence just like us but with a better medium and clout. Are we not casting our eye across the club ?? and what you dont expect them to either...especially with all the hype and psuedo subtefuge undertaken to get the players we now have. They want to see something ...so do I.

In essence the media are the messenger.. they arent the originators of our doldrum.

The state of the Australian media is disgraceful and not just with sport. This carp that's been going on around here this week makes me think we have the media we deserve, by goldfish, for goldfish.

Try global media. Its owned and directed by global barons for the benefit of the LCD at times.

I can assure you Bub I'm real. You admit it yourself. Happy with the hard work he's done over the last 2 years, happy to have all the shiny new talent on the list. But 1 loss later, let me repeat that because I can hardly believe it myself, 1 loss later you want to sack the coach. Surely you're havin a lend of me, either that or you have the attention span of a gnat.

So Garry Lyon's opinion is of no substance, because he's part of the media? Garry Lyon has no understanding of how commitment, intensity and passion are engendered? Seems we should dismiss the media conclusively, as they remain members of Joe McCarthy's fifth column, over 50 years on.

"There are none so blind than those who will not see"

Well... despite.. all that seems to be going on..there really isnt much to comment upon at present.. we can simply summise were playing crap..and will do for some whiles.. and probably its going to be a long and painfull year. whats new ?

There is one slight difference to this year. Bailey has used up his free passes. he now has to actually show something on the "positive" side of the ledger. his role to make provisions for drafts is done.. His real job now is to win.. simple as that. Only the timetable can be debated...not the goal.

I must confess I am not nearly convinced now as i was last year or even more recently that a rush to sign has been prudent. I want the spotlight on him ( DB ) I want him to feel the seering gaze of 30000 odd members..I want him to know he is now 100% accountable for the performance of this team . Thats his JOB.. if he doesnt get us going then he fails....and if its patently obvious that he is failing I want the club to revisit the terms of endearment before the years out. If he CAN get us up and running then he is worthy. its pretty simple.

Hes shown us he had mastered the art of Losing games ( as that suited ) now he must show us that he can master the art of WINNING games...as thats all that matters. Its nor for mine enough to be simply 'more competitive' as thats a style not an outcome. The old adage is that any team crossing the line must do so with the ideal if not the idea that they can win...so must we. Excuses will flow that injuries and youth are crippling us...theyre just excuses. Other teams in other years have had inexperience and made fists of the fight... so must we. And if we dont... Then certainly one person ought to be looking for other employment

So keep that blowtorch fired up... we need it ...and how !!

This is the EXACT reason i said last year that Dean Bailey's contract should be reviewed after Round 12 Queen's Birthday this year-for no other reason than to make him stay hungry each week. I got yelled down from all corners, but i still stand by what i believe.

If he can coach then no problems.

If he thinks he can coach but finds the going too tough, well both parties have a get out clause

I want Dean to succeed, but only if he has the Balls to do it himself.....Keep him as Hungry as the Players i say.

lend of you hardly !! why would I.. read properly my fellow demon..I m saying he now needs to be totally accountable..or else. didnt you get that bit ?

Theres more happening than just one loss.. weve hardly looked teh goods at all since last season..despite the early start.. despite all the rhetoric.. thats a reality.

This weekend is a real litmus test..not just of senior players..but the coaches..

I actually want DB and all to succeed... funny that (shakes head in dismay !!)

But its teh real game now.. hes come half way.. but i have nothign to suggest he can flip the coin yet and play a winning style. He has that to show. doesnt he ?

I think the Media has been Pretty Fair on us this week, considering our half time score last saturday.

Today in the Hun Page 85 Brad Green Totally agrees with Garry Lyon's Footy Classified remarks-why shouldn't he?

Bails is under the pump BUT if he can coach he will survive with style. At this point he is in charge of his destiny so i see no problem putting some heat on him.

It's a tough Job that he is being well paid to do, not a charity social club.

This Heat i hope will bring the best out of Dean Bailey.

The Media could have been a lot more savage.

The only section i question is "Did anybody actually see Melbourne Supporters throwing Scarves into bins outside the members" Mark Robinson continues to regurgitate it. Such an awful little worm he is.

Didn't think we would be as crap as we were in the first 45 minutes but I am not going to indict anyone on 45 minutes of rubbish football from a group of footy players who have given a lot of rubbish since 2007.

I mean Cam Bruce trusts Jamie Bennell to do more with 4 blokes around him, or on him, than his left foot with three metres of space.

Do I blame Bailey for that?

Frankly, our senior players, lest Macca, were awful on Saturday, and I couldn't give a flying about how they go - I have seen Warnock, Jones, Bate, Frawley, Morton, Sylvia, McKenzie, Petterd, Grimes, Garland, Jurrah, Cheney, Wonaeamirri, Martin, Jetta, Bennell, and Spencer get better since Bailey has come to the club and, as we are not looking at the immediate, that pleases me.

Spot on rpfc. Welcome back.

I also don't blame Bailey for Bruce getting lost in the wilderness whilst his opponent Osborne roams free on a wing (40 metres away from CB), accepts the ball and runs on to kick truly from 53m for the opening goal of the game.

One of the main rules of engagment on the field is "be accountable", it's not a free for all offensive game.

If you're not on your game (switched on), rebound football can be damaging. Opponents such as Hawthorn will kill you.

One thing that has slowly gotten to me about the way we play has come out in the articles in these articles.

When talking about Green's 200th, Bailey spoke about the need to compete, chase and lay tackles that stick. What gets me is that these are the basic elements of the game that most people who play footy are aware of from a young age. It gets me that these simple concepts are not on show two years after Bailey started at the club.

I can't believe it. I was very dissappointed that under the former regime where players were not playing hard footy.

Under Bailey that has started to change, have you forgoten allready.

Brad green for one leading from the front, was one who didn't go in. Young Morton who was very outside in his first couple of seasons, has started to go harder.

Grimes is coming along & going hard at it. Jamar getting in there. Little Jetta goes well.

Whats with this witchhunt stuff, I think you people are feeding your own frenzy.

There is no sense to it at all.

We've just played Rnd1 with a handfull of kids who got caught in the spotlight.

The kids got caught in the spotlight ?

You've got that the wrong way around. Scully, Trengove and Strauss did ok for their first games. Strauss a couple of mistakes but did good things with the ball on the big stage. Scully & Trengove had 43 touches between them. McKenzie had something like 11 tackles.

From my vantage point they weren't the ones under performing.

At a certain point, a decision will have to be made weighing up the cost of paying him out (you would hope the contract includes a settlement clause)

versus the cost to our playing list, membership numbers, sponsorship commitments of keeping him on.

That time hasn't arrived yet but the media noise (particularly Gary Lyon's comments last night) would indicate that there are rumblings of discontent.

I see you've made up your mind for the rest of us SoB.

What is it exactly that you know about football prey tell that us mortals don't?

We'd like to know so I can talk to Ron & ask him what he thinks?

I saw him the other day in passing, looking well, & busy doing as Barass does.

I remember Barass putting Sydney right then helping to find a young Rodney Eade to take over the Swannies & keep them in good stead.

They've done allright, don't you think. Especially since that high profile ex player was replaced by Ron himself to Coach for hardly any wins. Sydney – 1993–1995 (59 games)

Barass had Sydney win 1 in '93/ 4 in '94/ 8 in '95, taking over the basket case that Sydney had become.

Even the greats struggle when the ability isnt there or isn't ready.

Ours are youngsters with huge talent & no experience, Yet.

Just like our gutsy coach, taking on a huge assignment, he'll not walk away from it.

So it's the real game now Bub. The real litmus test, is it ? With a younger list than last year, less experienced in many ways. If it is a litmus test against Collingwood. What are your tolerances ?

Our forward line is somewhat structureless as most would agree and we're up against one of the best opposition defences. What are your tolerances or trigger points based on failure for the players and failure for Bailey, now that you have Bailey in the gun after Round 1 ?

What happens in your opinion then if a 119-58 (61 point margin - may be flattering) scoreline is returned in favour of Collingwood, but our young kids hold their own and the senior players are more accountable than last week against Hawthorn ?

I could take that no problems-its not going to be easy with all that black & White around, but as long as the Team has a real crack, particularly in the first half, that is most important. Bailey at this stage has got to get the team up early, even just for the sake of going through the Tapes next week & to say "This 5-10 period you guys can Be proud-this is what we need to aim for a whole game"

Thats the sort of thing i want to see, so we all know, including Dean that his Teaching is having a positive-He needs that reassurance as well for his own self belief.

The kids went allright. but do you think they didn't distract the senior players from their games?

I saw trengove in the first Qtr run past the waiting hawthorn player to the hawk ball carrier to takle, only for the hawk ball carrier to handball back to the waiting hawk, who then ran off with the run 'n' carry on his own, setting up the hawthorn running game.I noticed young Jack do this @ least 2 or 3 times on his own.

You & Wyl will have to look closer, or know what to look for in future boys.

Th

3e team malfunctioned because of the team balance was all wrong re experience & youth.

Find another winning bandwagon to jump on Wyl.

Yes in a manner of speak.I saw Trenners many mistakes, & Strausses.

IMO. this had a major bearing on how the senior boys games malfunctioned, & who knows, maybe the reason Green was hit early.

The hole senior side was under 5the pump. Have you ever played with many lesser teamates, you have to make up the leeway for?

Added pressure that can make your own game come apart. Thats what I saw, a carry over of lack of confidence from the preseason.

I'm been pushing for pumping games into these kids quicksmart, but get the sides confidence up first before bringing in the extra No's of kids in.

Im surprised Ht that you cant understand some basics...possiblythatlofty perch !! :)

Of course its a litmus test...you do understnand what thats means?? it describes one of three outcomes. Either things have been adressed by the coach(s) and a different ferocity and intent is used to play the game...or we could play worse.. hard to imagine..or it remains the same.

Maybe Bails has to get more inventive...so far his setups are a recipe for losing.. he might need to bring in others and /or to new and furhter experiments with positions.. He was more than capable to do this in order to lose.. lets see him do it to win!!

When the going gets tough...well you know... lets see him get going..

If the senior players are not pulling their weight and a number are not then messages need to be conveyed to them as to what is required and if the poor showing continues then a standard need to be set for the whole list and the offenders be dropped. Its not an ideal situation given the paucity of senior players on the list and in a number of cases their mediocre ooutput.

The performances of Scully, Trengove, McKenzie and Grimes were one of the few bright spots on Saturday. There are fantastic ssigns from these inexperienced players in a situation where the team was getting monstered. But aside from Junior and Green, where were the senior players and the mid level players of 5 year experience plus?

The Brad Green "didn't go in" tag has pretty much been dispelled by every knowledgeable poster on here.

Morton was "very outside in his first couple of seasons"...has played two seasons.

How am I feeding my own frenzy? What frenzy? Point me to another post of mine where it seems I'm in a frenzy?

My post was made on a concern that crept up on me last season and caught my attention after Round 1 where Bailey himself has said that we need to lay more tackles that stick and go in harder - as a team, not as a bunch of individuals.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
