Clearly I should ban people from taking photos of me playing sport.

See the photo of the bloke with his arms out to mark, but the ball hitting his head.

Yeah, that'd be me playing football.

The positives to take out of that is you had the mits and digits spread out just like LJ in readiness. :)

A thousand pardons to the players, team management, assistants and our legion of fans for not coming on earlier with the coach's report. I've, um, been basking in the glory of yet another premiership for the whole week, not to mention being bogged down with my work. So please accept my apologies for the lateness of this report.

Once again, the first person to thank for our success is Rollo who did such a great job in putting the whole lightning premiership together - not just our team but he seemed to be the manager for the other three teams as well in Collingwood (Nick's Bulletin Board), Essendon (Bomber Blitz) and our eventual grand final opponents in Richmond (Punt Road End). He was so good at his job that I nearly had to nail him for giving four tall blokes who turned up looking as if they could play footy away to Collingwood (one was their BOG in the first game against us!).

I want to thank my skipper Wise Monkey who led the team brilliantly. The example he set for the team made it easy for me and my assistants to coach the side and, in the end, I didn't really have to say much to them other than to man up, do their best, not argue with the umpires and shake hands with the opposition before the game even though Supermercado wasn't there to film any dramatic moments for posterity. All that was left was to pick the team and that was no easy task given that Rollo was giving away my players to the other teams at the rate of knots.

While I'm in the thank you mode, thanks to my assistants, the umpires, ball boys, linesman and the ragbag who put a pink ticket on my windscreen while I was doing an important civic duty for the youth of this country. If you think I'm going to pay up, you've got another thing coming.

First up was the game against the Pies and I must say that it always gives me great pleasure to beat anything that wears black and white. We started off kicking with the wind and dominated for our half but kicked shockingly. I was thinking how well our forward set up was working and how open the play was until I decided to interchange my ruckman off the ground and replace him with my forward pocket. It was at this stage that I realised that Tom2, the forward pocket was playing for Collingwood which had 20 or 21 players on the ground. Why on earth did Rollo lend them four players if they could put that many on the field at the one time? The skipper wanted to know if we should call a count and I decided against. I realised it wasn't their fault. After all, they are Collingwood supporters, victims of their own environment and a deficient education system. I let it slide and we weathered the storm when they kicked with the wind in the second half although their numbers seemed to be growing. I was going to draw the line at 25.

Richmond then beat Essendon to set up a grand final showdown between the two MCG tenants (however, this game was at Gosch's Paddock). I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't against the Bombers so that we could extract revenge for the NAB Challenge the previous day but that's life. Our football department spent ages picking the side for the grand final but even these plans were thwarted when Rollo gave a few more players away before the game. We ended up running out with 13 players and this was followed by a mad scramble to get the interchange players onto the ground. Anyway, we kicked with the wind again and set up a satisfactory lead by half time and then our defence did the job against the wind in the second half and we ran out comfortable winners.

I won't single out any players other than our award winners and Wolfmother who, in true Demon tradition of recent times, sustained an ankle injury. Get well soon mate!

The Jordan McMahon Perpetual Trophy for best player in the grand final v Richmond went to Dean at CHB. A special mention went to Stynes Factor at HBF. I hope that doesn't make me sound a defensive coach but IMO a strong team starts with a good defence. Thanks to all the blokes who played - they came from Demonland, Demonology and the Melbourne Board on bigfooty. I have a piece of paper somewhere with the match stats written down. If it hasn't gone through the washing machine with the pink ticket I'll come back and post them another time.

Finally, it was a great treat to be singing the club song after another premiership victory. Thanks again fellers!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
