Our Young Promising Backline Targeted By Gold Coast?

We finished Bottom for the last 3 years. I think other teams would be more worried than the MFC

Some of the defenders that are mentioned here have shown no more than potential.

Lets see how 2010 unfolds before anyone gets worried.

On the other hand even though we've finished last the defenders have been good. If they see potential finishing last may hinder us because the GC wont want to give us much in exchange because our defenders aren't valued as highly.

Personally, I think their top targets would be Frawley, Tayte Pears and Dale Morris. Maybe a few others like Sam Gilbert, Nathan Brown...

But we definitely won't be immune.

Brad Miller is the one for me they are likely to target - Tall Strong body, can play at both ends and grew up in QLD. Also contractually fits into the window

Fair comment, but i still say wait until 2010 season is well under way before being to worried about any of our "potential" stars (none of them have played in a Big Game yet. I hope they do this year & do well.

People speak about Colin Garland around here in Hushed Tones....as if he is a champion already. He hasn't even started yet.

Bring on 2010 the Better the Team plays the more the players are worth. Geelong & Brisbane both kept their champion sides together over all in the last decade. We must aim to do the same.

The Club will be compensated for any losses-all clubs will be under fire

Hopefully in time the bulk of our list will WANT to stay together regardless of offers.

The club will be compensated, but not fairly. I have no faith whatsoever in the AFL's "secret" formula to determine the value of a player. This whole mess is a disgrace and should be grounds for the immediate removal of Andy and his entire board.

sure i believe you on that, but i put the blame on North Melbourne. If they had gone up to the Gold coast then these draft conditions would not exist.

Harsh i know but the Truth. If North go Belly Up in the next 5 years i will be absolutely furious.

Let's see who really barracks for North Melbourne.....

That's a little harsh on North, I'm sure if it was Melbourne in the same position you would fight tooth and nail to keep the dees here too, I know I would have!

I don't think its Harsh on North at all. It was only a few years ago they attracted just over 25,000 people to a final in melbourne.

We are yet to see Brayshaws "white Knights" and i don't think we will.

When the Demons start winning this club will pull big crowds-Our Dormant supporters will waken, North could never fill the 'G not even during the '90's. If i am proven wrong i will be the first to acknowledge it, but i don't think 10 teams will be in Victoria for too much longer, and yes if it weren't for the current administration we would already be out.

But that didn't happen-and we have re-alligned with our home The MCC. Sure we have to win back Respect.

The North Sympathy vote will not last forever, so let's just wait and see....North were lucky to win all 4 of their Flags if you examine the circumstances carefully.

There should only be one Melbourne in this city anyway....The MFC.

Why are they going after defenders? Heaps easier to steal a couple of decent ones than it is to snare forwards

More because the accepted wisdom is that a strong defence is key to a premiership tilt. Premiers are supposed to be built from the back and height in defence is as important as forwards any day.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
