Why is that selection strange? He is a talented WA aboriginal who hasnt got the best out of himself yet, well worth a rookie list in my opinion.

Apparently his body has only just got to a state where he can deal with being an AFL footballer and is only just starting to put on weight after failing to add any muscle during his time at Richmond.

Hope he does well as he is pretty unfairly abused.

I wouldn't have thought it was "unfair?!"

Funniest thing is, is that he makes it look as though Newton has had a stellar AFL career!?

A late rookie selection, I don't see why he wouldn't be worth the risk?

I agree. They take a punt on Oakley- Nicholls or they punt on a green young player. Either way its a punt with low risk.

28 year old James Podsiadly to Geelong was the rookie selection that took me by surprise.

Maybe we should have given Saunter a go a few years back!

I'd be beside myself in stitches if he got up to the senior list at West Coast and performed well. Why ?

A: Richmond.

If he is a W.A boy, then well worth a punt. Don't forget he was at Richmond so he was probably not able to show much talent in that Rabble

12 Months with the "Chemist" as coach may juist sort him out....Don't Forget David Rodan played ordinary footy for richmond, at Port he has shone.

I always wondered exactly the same thing - especially considering he continually dominated the VFL, one of those 'unlucky' ones I think... Unfortunate really.

Tambling took a couple of years to show something too

Correct. i actually hope Tambling becomes a champion because he has been very unfairly treated by Football supporters in general.

People expect and want instant stardom now, which is why that awful "Australian Idol" show exists. Good things can take time.

I hope our FD treat all our Potential "stars" with care and Respect in the next 2 years.

knee reco out for season

unfortunate

That is unfortunate. LTI - there will be someone promoted from rookie list. Cameron Cloke will have his fingers crossed.

He turned down AFL to concentrate on his business.

It may be bizarre but it's not ridiculous. Certainly not something anyone would have thought would happen, but maybe the change of city and the removal of pressure as a high draft pick might spark his career.

I doubt it though.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
