DB will have definitely stowed away Morton's 3-goal last half from CHF against Geelong (I think) in the memory banks. That was one of THE most significant events of the "experimentation" phase of 2009.

Ridiculously drunk, but still more more than happy to voice an opinion. Would very much prefer that we keep Morton in a role that's not as a KPF for the near future. He's tall and against popular opinion (mostly due to the whole run-away-from-port-power-ruckman debacle) not afraid to shy a contest. Give him another 5-10kg and he's gonna be a very difficult player to match up on. Looking to big things from Cale, that's my two cents. Apologies for any spelling errors, predictive text is a b*tch.

If you want to look at the future of Cale Morton, just watch a replay of the Sydney game and watch him in the one on ones with strong, more experienced Adam Goodes.

Yep. His position could just about vary week by week depending on where it's going to be hardest for the opposition to match up on him.

A few more Kgs and he will be able to play anywhere. Incredibly talented is young Cale Morton.

If we develop our mids and running backs imagine the damage, Watts, Jurrah, Bate, Sylvia and Morton could do up forward - how could you match them all up??

Ohhh, and BTW, BD is on record as saying he sees Cale as a forward down the track. He is 193 cms so will make a damaging 3rd tall.

That is why we did not risk pick 11 or 18 on a tall when there were clearly more talented players at those picks - makes perfect sense.

Also explains the logic behind Fitzy and Gawn. We need to develop rucks and Fitzy can play forward - a great strategy by the recruiting staff. Now its up to the footy department to develop them. Fitzy is quick and agile and can mark - needs a few Kg though.

spot on.. it was definitely one of the best results from our experimenting.. would love to see him in the forward line as a tall along side watts in the future.. we have so many potential mids now so we should develop him as a forward we can push up the ground

I'm still not convinced we've got enough mids.

We've got enough in numbers, but I'm not sure about in quality.

I'd prefer to keep Morton in the midfield for the time being.

Morton has the uncanny ability of finding space when there appears to be none, he pops up all over the place with no one within 20 mtrs of him. He will be one of those players that will find a hole in the forward line take the mark and kick the goal all with the minimum of fuss.

Let him be a traditional wingman.

Not a link in midfield but someone who kicks goals and stops goals and who is a kick ahead of the play.

Cam has been given some of the worst jobs going over the last few years, he usually has to tag players, generally the oppositions best and is very rarely allowed to play his own game. Just have a look at Bruce more closely and see how often, if ever he is beaten in a one on one contest whether it be in the air or on the ground. He is a much under rated player and at a club like Collingwood would be feted as a star.

Completely agree, Bruce in one on one contests is excellent. He uses his body and thinks his way through it to great effect. In regards to Cale I can't see him becoming a permanent CHF but someone who will play that role in some games due to match ups

Bruce has be fantastic for us over the years. An awesome rookie pick who has played consistently good football for 10 years. Thank goodness the FD have better eye site than some on this thread as otherwise Bruce would have been shown the door just like so many other of Danihers men.

Bruce has been in the top 10 for Bluey every year since his debut......................... enough said.

To those anti Bruce, there are 15 other teams and about 600 non Melbourne listed players that your venin would be much better targeted towards. If you are going to have a shot at our own players surely lazy, duds like Newton deserve a swipe rather than a solid, seasoned, steward of our club such as Bruce.

I remember reading that he saw himself developing into a CHF in the long term, and believe he played that position quite a bit at Colts level. I'd love to see him start on a forward flank next year with the license to run up and down the wing and push hard into the forward 50 to create another marking target. His running capacity and ability to find space make him an ideal candidate for such a role IMO.

the reason why cale has been given those jobs was very obvious. he played a very naturally attacking game early and ran forward at every opportunity looking to hurt the opposition. his natural instinct was to attack (fantastic) but the defensive side of his game needed some work. Cale was given 'jobs' because the coaching staff wanted to develop within him a responsibility going the other way. He needed to learn a bit more about accountability.

In the future this will not be at expense to his natural game, but will complement it, giving him a better set of skills. Hopefully next year we will see him given more freedom on a wing to attack, knowing that he will also be accountable the other way.
