Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

So nice to see matches from the Western Oval and Windy Hill ( I think the game lost a large part of its soul when they stopped playing at the suburban grounds - an equally big part when they did away with the reserves curtain-raiser and a large chunk when we lost the under 19s). Not so nice to see that 80's video LOL.

I just broke a funny bone. I haven't seen that in about 15 years. I still have it on VHS. Absolutely hilarious.

I love how there is a random 2 seconds of women jumping around in leotards.

I'd never seen any of that 1987 match before.

The reaction when Hawthorn hits the lead at Kardinia Park is amazing...

That day was the greatest day i had at the Footy. Even if we win a Flag that Round 22 1987 match will always be remembered.

It signified that we were back after 23 years of nothing.

Good stuff.

The 87 Western Oval game is still the greatest day Ive ever had at the footy. It was just magical. I think part of what made it so great was that it was an away game, which back in the old days always gave us that extra special tribal us-against-them feeling.

We played a brilliant last quarter and in the end, it all very nearly came to nothing. Hawthorn totaly stole that game against Geelong. On the video you can hear the crowd murmur a little as Dunstall took the mark, about 20 seconds before everyone goes nuts when he kicked the goal.

If Geelong had won we'd probably remember the day as an awful experience, getting our hopes crushed.

The Brian Wilson goal in the last quarter is still my favourite goal of alltime. Out on the wing I was right behind it as it sailed through the goals. I rode it home all the way and lost my 13year old mind with everyone else. If there is a heaven, I think eternal joy would feel pretty much like I felt as Wilson kicked that goal.

How many of you like me, watching that video and can recite every piece of commentary word for word?

Do you remember a game from the late 80's possibly early 90's where Melbourne beat West Coast at Subiaco? The players then proceeded to give it to the crowd. I think Garry Lyon and Brian Wilson may have even stuck their fingers up to the crowd as they were walking off the ground. I would love to see footage of this game again, I just can't remember what year it was!

That was '89. Huge Brawl at the End. Darren Bennett & Brian Wilson really gave it to the crowd. I have the Game on Tape.

At 3/4 time John Northey got stuck into the Eagles & had To be Restrained.

I was only 2 so obviously too young to go to the game and i can't remember it all. But I've watched the video a thousand times and Wilson's goal is my favourite of all time as well even though I wasn't even there and I've seen a fair few in the flesh! 87 was such a special year, Robbie's last season, making the finals for the first time in 23 years, having to win our last 5 or 6 games and then almost making it all the way to the big dance! That season really brought us out of the wilderness. Melbourne supporters my age think we've got it tough, but at least we make the finals pretty regularly.

The fact that the ball flew through a pack and miraculously landed in Dunstall's arms makes it even better.

There will be never be another day like that again - no team will go that long without making the finals, and the games won't be played at the same time.

Too right. 6 games on a saturday with a Transistor shoved against your ear, pie & Footy Record in the other.

Top Days they were & that Western oval day was near the end of all that.

Singing "Grand Old Flag" down dynon Road. Brilliant.

Thanks for that. It's one of my first memories as a supporter after 87 when I would have been only 4-5 years old.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
