A lad i speak to everyday whos going to draft camp has stood Butcher in the U/18 carnival. His comments about him wernt to impressive. He said very lazy & weak when the balls on the ground or he dosnt get it 1st chance.Said he has fairly good hands but is a absoloutly terrible kick.Dosnt chase or 2nd effort & he thinks he should be well down the draft order. He said Panos is far better & if he was picking would take Panos every day of the week.Far better kick, more skillful & better chaser & tackler, all round better player. This lad also likes the dees & said he would take Panos without a doubt.I wont mention his name but hes going to the draft camp & i would love it if we got him with our 3rd or 4th round pick or rookied him.Hes also good mates with Panos so that could help with the move to Vic

Haha good 1 but i wont give it up that easily.Ill give a few hints though, ive mentioned him on here before & realy rate the guy as a player & person.Hes 195cm & 85kg & has been playing SANFL seniors all year as a fullback & CHB.Has stood players like Ken McGregor,Todd GRima,Damon White etc.Was named in the best several times & had a rising star nomination.Hes going to the State screening & the Crows & power have spoken to him as have several Vic clubs.Hes a good lad & grew up & played all his junior & rep footy with Trengove, rates the guy very highly & says hes a gun.Knows him well & they both moved from the city from theyre country towns to play foory in the SANFL,oh by the way he likes Melb to & would love to get a spot there.Would help if we got him & Trengove & Panos as they all know eachother & could help them settle in

What are his chances of being picked up by the Dee's, and are his initials 'AS'?

thanks mate

Yeah the AS initials got it,thats him so think you can figure that out.Played Fullback & CHB all year for Norwoods League side & is going to the state screening after attending the National screening last year.Quality kid & would be a good solid player at AFL level.More in the mould of a Frawley or Rutten i would think, can use the ball well & has a huge kick, not a flashy player but a solid hard player.Thinks he might get rookied or picked up late.% clubs spoke to him last year & as i said hed love to play at the Dees

Haha you got me there, thats exactly what id say he is.Hes been getting around a dozen kicks a game plus half a dozen handballs but is strong, takes a good grab & has a good spoil on him.Hes not someone that will get cheap kicks sweating off players & rack up 40 stats a game cos hes a close shecking hard defender.Good solid build to & has played against & stood some X-AFL players.Only 19 as well so id love us to give him a go.Obviously you have seen him or know of him so whats your opinion?

Bailey said on the draft camp 'we will be picking at least 1 midfielder with one of our first 2 picks'...arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh this means john butcher

How does that work?

We're taking 2 of Scully, Trengove and Morabito. I'd bet my life on it.

That made me giggle. Taking the [censored] out of two posters with one sledge. Nice.

Cam Schwab wrote this on twitter this morning: CamSchwab Winning teams need approx 12 quality players who can run through the midfield. Cats had 14/15 on Sat. What will ours look like in 2012?

Sounds to me like were taking Scully and Trengove

If Butcher lasts to Pick 11 and we get him he will suddenly go from overrated giraffe who can't kick to biggest steal in draft history gun forward.

HA! I was thinking the same thing.

I remember Sellar was supposed to be pick two after Gibbs a few years ago. He ended up being the last pick of the first round from memory... pick 16 or thereabouts. He's not entirely useless, but I'm not sure he's going to have a glittering career.

Would people prefer Talia over Butcher? While Butcher is a chance to drift to eleven, Talia is NO chance I would have thought. Would love to see some of the mock drafts people have in mind for the first 20 picks.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
