I am curious. If you were to rate players on their absolute potential where would Grimes rate?

That's a good question. I have no idea where Grimes' ceiling is, but it'll be interesting to look back after 5 years or so on the list. We've seen plenty of times in the past with players hitting their ceiling almost immediately (like Bartram). I doubt that's the case here, but even if it is then we've got a good player on our hands. If it's not ...

I've a funny feeling that grimes will just slowly get better over the next several years - we won't see a breakout year. All of a sudden, he'll be in our to 5 players and have gotten there without a fuss.

That said, he is not a gun now - he is quite a ways from it really. I'm awfully sick of players with 'potential' not really kicking on - that's where Grimes is now.

The big concern is whether his body will be up to it.

shows potential to be a good player.

star? im not decided, but i am excited as he looks like being a solid 200 gamer for the club, no fuss player who does most things right. he will get 200 games on merit, not just because he is around, but i am not sure whether he will be a competition star just yet. if he is it will be as a 30 possession a game workhorse not a damaging game breaker.

You can see why the club was so torn over whether to pick Morton or Grimes with #4 in the draft. Grimes is going to be a superstar.... I wonder what odds Centrebet are offering on Grimes to win the 2012 Brownlow... hmmm....

haha his odds would be rediculous mate. Lucky for us we picked Morton dont want to ruin the Grimes love but he is a much better player. Morton slips under the radar about on this site. He has had some massive wraps from the likes of Nathan Buckley. I think he will become an excellent A grader whilst with Grimes im a bit undecided

Bartram started his career with a top 8 side around him, it's alot easy to look good with a better team around you.

Grimes will be the real deal, if injury doesn't get the better of him.

Morton is a more devastating kick, finds the ball at will, almost 10cm taller and is a top5 runner at the club(I am aware that Grimes is also very good at the beep test).

We have other potentially great players: Watts, Frawley, Sylvia, Garland, Blease (apparently) and Jurrah. Where does Grimes' absolute best game place him in this bunch?

One thing in his favour is his hunger and commitment.

You left out 'courage.'

One thing in his favour is his hunger and commitment. As I mentioned in the Maric thread, it is one thing to be talented and another to be driven enough to get the most out of your talent.

How would you rate Lenny Hayes vs Brendan Goddard?Kirk vs Goodes? I can see Grimes being a star in the Hayes/Bartel/Kirk mould. A pure footballer with no amazing athletic traits who gets the most out of his talents. Nothing wrong with that for mine.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
