It is of great debate who we will take at Pick 2. Trengove the midfielder or Butcher the Key Forward!

Personally I would take Trengove to pair with Scully. He is just too good to pass up on I think. Therefor, we need another low pick to recruit another KP along with Pick 18.

With it difficult to trade for another teams 1st Round Pick. I believe we need to concentrate on getting another 2nd Rounder. Thats Pick 20-25 I am talking about. Pick 18 and an additional 2nd Rounder will allow us to pick 2 KPs.

Pick 24 (Power) and Pick 25 (Hawthorn) are the most realistic.

Port Adelaide - they will be highly active in trade week. And it has been rumoured they are after a ruckman.

Hawthorn - they are still in a position to challenge for a premiership for another 2-3 years you would think but are in desperate need of a ruckman and a defender.

So who could we offer?

With the rumour of Jamar wanting to return to SA. He could be the one to get a deal done.

Jamar and Bell for Ports Pick 24?

Would they trade there Pick 8? Unlikely I would think. But what about Jamar and Rivers For Pick 8?Is that realistic?

Would Carlton trade there Pick 11 to Port for Boak or Salopek? Who knows. If so, Port could on trade Pick 11 for Jamar and Rivers.

Jamar and Miller to Hawthorn for Pick 25? Miller a defender. Not sure! But why not throw it up with Jamar. Both are aggressive tough footballers. Hawthorns style.

Jamar and Rivers to Hawthorn for Pick 9?

I dont have anything against Jamar or Rivers. But thought they might be the ones to get a deal done. Both are SA. Have both been injury prone at Melbourne but both highly rated.

Thoughts and suggestions?

By the way. If we could accomplish any of these scenarios. My Draft selections would be;

1. Scully 2. Trengove 8. or 9. Tapscott 18. Panos 34. Daw (I think Essendon might take him with Pick 26) 50. Grimes or Mathew Smith

OR

1. Scully 2. Trengove 18. Panos 24. or 25. Daw 34. Griffiths 50. Grimes or Mathew Smith

I can only Dream!!!

When any possible trades are bantered around, one important thing must be considered.

The ussual draft pool consists of youngsters from a block of 12 months, unless they are mature age picks.

This draft, due to GC17, only consists of a pool coming from a block of 8 months.

Therefore the draft is 1/3 weaker than the ussual draft.

Thus, pick 24 in the this year's draft is equavalent to a pick 35 in any other year's draft.

I would be extremely hesitant to trade for picks in this year's draft pool unless it was for a first round pick.

...

PS- why would we trade Jamar, who is an extremely compitant ruckman who can break even with almost all rucks in the afl at least... for a draft pick of some unknown player in a weak draft... especially when we are light on good ruckman. Silly. I would not trade Jamar!

It would be great to keep the Russian. Has had a break out year but is still injury prone I think. He really struggles with his feet and quads. His breakout year could be the best time to move him on at his greatest value. We got Pick 12 for Jolly I think!

If the rumour is true that he wants to go back home. Then move him on quickly! I think the draft still has plenty of potential upto Pick 30. Gold Coast and West Sydney to dominate drafting after this year. Any picks within the top 30 are gold I think. Jamar is 26 and will be more valuable to another club challenging for a premiership.

melb has already tried to trade jamar but nobody wanted him last year. if you read the article below....Connolly talks him up...but he's really trying to sell him off.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/News/NewsArt...28/default.aspx

I think Jamar is of greater value this year! Crashing packs and kicking goals. Not too mention beating some good ruckman. One in particular Sandilands!

I rate Jamar par with Sandilands on this years form. Hawthorn are very keen on Sandilands but Harvey doesnt want to part with him. And he is contracted for another year. So this adds more value to the Jamar scenario I think.

If we lost Jamar we'd need to trade for another readymade ruckman so there'd be no point. PJ, Meesen and spencer plus maybe a third round draftee would see us floundering in the ruck for at least 2 years maybe 5.

Jamar is a required player and I wouldn't let him go for any less than a first round pick, maybe even top 10.

Jamar is at his peak for trade. If we could draft Majak Daw as his replacement I would be very happy. The Russian out and the African in. I would hate to Daw land at the Bombers like Alwyn Davey slipped through. I am also happy with Spencers progress.

My thoughts are mainly based on the rumour that Jamar wants to go home.

So we trade him!

This wouldn't land us an extra pick but would improve our positioning. How about Buckley and pick 18 to Collingwood for 14. Collingwood have always been happy to make trades swapping picks before and this could allow us to grab Vardy who can play as a KP forward and in the ruck. Thoughts?

I think we could get an extra pick if we gave up the right players as those mentioned above. I would be happy to improve our positioning if we could give up any of Bell or Miller.

Agree. With Spencer & Meesen still developing and PJ 'running around', we would need another ruckman and we'd struggle in games.

The thing is, are those rumours true with regard to Mark?

If Jamar is doing so good why not keep him?

This would be a good trade to free up a spot on the list....but Collingwood aren't exactly going to be culling players left, right and centre.....I doubt that would happen.

Keep Jamar. We've put 5 years of hard work into him, he's finally showing signs of becoming a first class ruckman.

Yep

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
