Trengove/Butcher/Panos/Jetta dilema

If Mfc goes Scully & Trengove with the first two. I hope that one of Talia, Carlisle or maybe Panos are still available at pick 18. (ranked in that order).

Yeah i would love it to go that way. Talia is a gun will not be around by 18. only the injury could make him slide to us.

I see Butcher as the most overated player. Does nothing ppl have really got to get over his height. Everyone loves a guy that can take a contested mark but really the game is changing all you have to do more so now is beat your direct opponet. I would be absolutely shattered if we took Butcher at 2.

David Neitz was only 193cm.

Talia is firmly lodged in the top 10 for mine. Quality marking mobile tall, who can play absolutely anywhere on the ground and impressed in the midfield on final day of the champs. Our best bet for a quliaty KPP at 18 would be Panos or Carlisle, and even both those guys could be gone by then. I'm very keen on Panos; don't know why people aren't keen. What i've seen of him live and in footage has been very impressive.

I just hope we don't take Fitzpatrick at 18. If he's available at 34, then i'd conder him, but taking him at 18 to fill a need instead of going for best available may come back to bite us in the ar$e.

we should definately chase louis jetta. love some of his work. think we need to conjure up a trade to get another top 20 pick then we could go the trengrove panos jetta option. if not then we should go the butcher jetta option with the picks.

Surely we'll have our pick of either Panos, Talia or Carlisle.

If not it would mean a gun has somehow slipped through like Koby Stevens, Rohan, Mitch Duncan, Gysberts, Christensen, etc.

We'll end up with a decent player, as long as Prendergast does his job properly.

I think in this draft however, we will see a lot of names pop up out of nowhere.

It always happens, but in a weaker draft there could be a few quite early

Hi all - rookie poster here. Have been reading the posts for about a year or so and find the debate interesting reading. Good to know there are plenty of like mided supporters out there!

I find the debate around Trengove v Morabito v Butcher etc. very interesting. Having not seen any of them live, so I have to defer to the experts on which is the most likely star of the trio (or indeed if there are others like Panos Jetta etc.).

What I was wondering though, is whether or not it would be possible to pursuade one of the three or four top choices (e.g. Butcher) to only nominate for the PSD thereby enabling us to snare Scully, Trengove and Butcher? Probably a rule disallowing this - can someone inform?

Don't think this would be possible, the afl want equity in the competition, and if we some how enticed (e.g.butcher) to enter the PSD, the afl would probably see that as draft tampering, which could possibly result in the loss of our no.2 pick or some other form of punishment.

I'm pretty sure you only go in the PSD as an automatic entry if you get passed over in the National Draft and the only other way you can nominate for it is if you have previously been on an AFL list.

Liam Jurrah was a special case because of papers being sent in without his signature on them and other cloak and dagger details.

The AFL made an extraordinary exception in this case.

I'm not complaining though

I am not at all sold on Jetta. I really don't think he belongs in the list with the other players mentioned. From the footage i've seen he's fast and nimble, but not the best kick, not the smartest player and tends to be selfish. I'm sure there are plenty of other players we could take who tick the same boxes. Maybe take him if he's still going in the third round.

Selfish? Your kidding right? He's very team orientated, as mentioned as a strength of his on the draft camp website on afl.com

The Molan article...http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/unlucky-pick-from-the-superdraft/2008/11/24/1227491463795.html

Yeah, it was a fantastic article.

Thanks for finding that.

Yeah, watching him today in the WAFL on TV. This is how i would sum him up after seeing him.. nice post.

A half- forward flanker, mabbe eventual wingman. Reminds me of Danyle Pearce from Port.

If he slips thru to 3rd round then he might be a chance for us..

I'll stick to Morabito for pick 2 thanks! ;)

if we convince boak to go to the pre season draft, we should def go scully, butcher and jetta with the picks in the national draft. definately covers a few areas where we need some strengthening.

I've been split between trengrove and morabito but if we can convince boak, I'm all for it!

I think Brock played probably his most solid game for the season yesterday. He won a bit of the hard ball and I only remember him turning it over once or twice. I think we keep all three hard nuts (McLean, Moloney and Jones), add Trengove, Scully, Boak and then remembering Grimes, Bennell etc and we'll suddenly have great depth in our midfield.

We've stocked up on backs, now is the time to stock up on midfielders. Over the next two to three years, it'd be nice to pick up one more key forward (no, not in this years draft) and then IMO we'll be set. I'm now confident Jamar and Spencer can carry us in the ruck divisions.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
