Trade for a first round pick

Bruce Almighty

Recommended Posts

I would consider trading Green or Bruce for a pick inside the top 20. I know they are not surplus to requirements but the nature of the compromised draft combined with the fact that they won't be around for our next flag means that any offers should be considered.

Bruce. PLEASE.

Fair enough...but it won't happen. We will lose more exp this year and they need to keep some exp players and leaders.

If we do draft Scully and Trengove and in a few years time Viney, and should they all become good players, then our current midfield crop could do with some trimming IMO.

Sure there are the oldies in Bruce and Green, but don't exclude the likes of McLean and Jones either. Moloney is having a great year and is safe.

Of the 4, Bruce has no trade value IMHO, Green should finish his career here, Jones and McLean offer the greatest value of all 4 and both would be immediately off set if we were to draft Scully and Trengove (both walkup starts to our midfield, come round 1 next year). The likes of Moloney, Bruce, Green and Sylvia could fill the void of the experience lost by trading Jones and McLean.

Neither are great with disposal and aren't quick either. Of the 2, i'd let Jones go before McLean, as McLean has greater leadership and Jones' trade value would be greater.

Not sure whether 'Twitter' has more trade value than McLean.

Trading away players for early picks will take us a step backwards. We need to start moving up the ladder sooner rather than later.

If anything I would trade away our second pick for a very good proven player 25 or younger. I don't know that any are available, but I see the value of an early pick for us to be less than for other clubs who might be more desperate. If not I would also like to see us trade down our second pick for a later first round pick to secure another player of appropriate value. A player that can play now and add something to the team. This is because I can't see a genuine stand out pick 2 but I do see some players I would be keen to pick up in the mid to late first round area.

We should also consider that it is possible many clubs will find picks in the 3rd round and beyond worth having where we might be passing by then or close to it, so I would suggest using them in a trade somehow.

Do you think the doggies will trade there first pick for Mille or another key forward to anyone else? Maybe we could be involved in a three way trade to get us another pick before 25?

Dale Kerrigan has an answer for you ;):rolleyes:

I agree with Dale Kerrigan (or whatever the guy's name is) regarding the supposed trade value of the players always mentioned on this site.

Players like Bruce, Robbo, Bartram, Newton, Johnson. Bell et al have no trade value.

McLean & Jones would have some trade value, but late second round at best. Miller may have limited value.

Petterd may have some value, but I'd hate to see him leave.

why didnt you use the time it took you to post your insiginificant negative comment to actually create a good thread, or are you not capable?

Agreed, its actually a very good topic and the prospect of trading for another first round pick will most certainly be discussed amongst the football department so why is it so silly that we discuss it?

I agree some of the suggestions made are highly unrealistic but thats not the threads fault, this is a public msg board and by its nature it is here to allow people to discuss MFC football topics. People who bag threads for even being opened in the first place jsut because they dont agree with it make them look very silly.

Lets not forget we pretty much have 2 new drafties already with blease and strauss. Add them to the young players we get this year and we have a lot of young players to try and develope. Lets not get to carried away with getting more draft picks.

That's a good call. There are topping-up clubs that would go for that. Unfortunately not inside the top 20 for any player of their respective ages. Interestingly, the rest of the league has a clearer idea of Bruce's worth than the nuff nuffs on here do. A Bruce trade, to someone like Brisbane, Carlton, Bulldogs... any of the top 6 or so, would be a win-win. But if we only got a pick after our #34, it wouldn't be worth it.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Going by everyon's favourite model, the Hawks, we're a couple of juicy trades away from them. Granted the days of Rawlings/Hay type trades are gone for the time being, if we can get anything decent for any of our players that won't be there in 3 years time, we should explore the option at least.

There's no sense in tanking if you're only going to half-arse it. We've done the hard yards already, I'd hate o see us turn down a good deal just because of misplaced loyalty. It's not about Bruce/Green/Wheatley/Junior anymore... It's about Grimes, Morton, McLean, Jones... etc etc.

To get a pick in the teens would be unbelievably good. But honestly we don't have wnyone on the list that demands that kind of action. Davey and Sylvia maybe... I'll be VERY interested to see what action Col gets this year. For my part I'm still of the frame of mind that many wanted him to play good footy so that we could TRADE him, not keep him. Granted, I'd like to see him do what he's done this year over and over, but if he's limited by his body again (or his mind) then a trade could be of Rawlings/Hay proportions.

I'm kind of hoping they look at other options, like perhaps pick 2 for Tippet and pick 12 (or thereabouts). Or in a multi-trade, pick 2 for picks 6 and 11 or something like that.

The Hawks did it right when they got 5 in the first 21 a few years back. I believe Muston was one of those, so it doesn't always work. But a saturation of top 20 picks is the right way to go, particularly in a non-superdraft year.

And before the RRs of this world get on here and decry everyone for having a bit of fun, I don't for a minute think any of these are likely to happen. It's all a bit of fun.

100% agree.

Can't understand the pro-tankers who want to start trading away our draft picks or not look to get any more because they want to hurry up the process. If we bottom out, we do it properly, then we hopefully reap the rewards with a long period of sustained success.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
