Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

i know it is still very early days..

but if we only win 1 more game for the season, get a PP, and choose Scully at number 1 (as i am sure everyone will agree with).. who would you choose with our 2nd pick??

i think Trengove is the way to go (even though there is a 'go home factor').. i think Butcher is still a wild card if he produces some good form in the coming months... and i personally wouldnt choose Morabito.. from what i saw he isnt much of a team player and likes his 'glory shots'.. plus i think his kicking is average..

If we have the best mid and were faced with a mid and KPF we ranked equally I'd take the KPF.

However, it seems likely that come our second pick we'll rank a mid higher than a KPF.

I don't know enough about the individuals you've listed to give much input on specific players, but Trengove has been getting some decent reviews.

Looking at how our midfield has gone this year, I'd say we're in more desperate need of a couple of good midfielders. Obviously we take the best available, but as luck would have it, it seems like we'll be able to do both this year with the second pick. No-one's mentioned Rohan here, which is odd... Personally I'm on Trengrove ATM.

Malthouse was on SEN this morning talking about how important midfields are, it was something they identified many years ago and have been trying to develop a team with that in mind. Now we're seeing their results, an average team fighting for a top 4 spot.

Two best midfielders.

IF we get the priority pick,,,, then I would take the 2 classiest/best mids.

I believe, Scully, then (Trengove,,, or Cunnington/Lucas).

I wouldn't mind Talia @ the DEES, I think he'll be top 10.

At 2nd Rnd, I'd like Colyer, or a tall like Carlisle/Vardy.

Trengrove for me. This might be a different story if Jurrah didn't arrive like he did this season, we would all be calling for a key forward, but i think with Watts, Jurrah, Bate and i think Dunn let them all play together next season like we have with our backline this year, and i think we will be very surprised.

In 3 years our midfield rotation could look like this

Scully

McLean

Jones

Moloney

Davey

Strauss

Morton

Blease

Trengrove

I voted Trengove. I really really like Morabito, but just feel that Trengove is the safer option. I'll be pretty happy either way. And if Prendergast likes Butcher, then that's fine too.

I salivate over a Scully, Trengove, Grimes, and Blease midfield in 3-4 years. The first two would arguably be our best mids come round 1 next year. No joke.

Here's some more info on Trengove:

But I really like Morabito.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Trengrove looks safe but I wouldn't mind having Morabito. We'll get either. And if they go with Butcher, so be it. Any of them will get us plenty excited about the future.

I voted Trengove for my second pick. If we get it!

I would be happy with Trengove. I'd also be quite content with either Butcher, Morabito or even Rohan at this stage if BP elected for either of these.

Following scenario's (if cards fall into place - 4 wins or less & of course if Freo finish bottom 2 with Dees): -

1.

Melb (Priority): Scully

Freo (1st pick): Trengove (pure speculation)

Melb (2nd pick): Morabito,Butcher or Rohan

2.

Melb (Priority): Scully

Melb (1st pick): Trengove

I like the look of Trengrove, but i'd be very worried about the go home factor. I would be looking very hard at options to keep him in Melbourne for a long time, knowing that two teams would be moving heaven and earth to lure him back to Adelaide the moment his contract was up. There is no way we would be getting what we gave for him in trade, especially if he left after only two years.

That being said, the descriptions of his playing style, in particular the notion that he is a player who can lift and drag his whole team up with him, are very encouraging. Quite a few people have compared him to Ricciuto, and that is never a bad thing.

Absurd thinking.

You mean just like Tommy Mac and Rivers have demanded to be sent back to SA?

Or the way Morton, Bennel and Jetta have asked to be sent back to WA?

I don't know the state of origin of all of our list, but this is ridiculous. Who'd want to go home to Adelaide anyway?

Once they're in Melb & are playing at the G they'll know what they've been missing

as a west australian i resent that.

i know its all guess work but is it realistic that butcher or rohan could slip through to our 2nd round pick be it 17 or 18. i would be really excited if we could pick up scully and trengrove then snaffle butcher or the bloodnut as well.

mind you we still have 3 more games to get past ...

Hi all! First post here...

Supposing we do get a 2nd pick, i'm inclined to think we will be in for John Butcher. Listening to Bailey's comments on what he thinks we need, a "power forward who can take a contested mark & kick goals", you'd have to think Butcher would be at the forefront of his mind.

Barry Prendergast didn't give Trengove the same wraps that others have, although he rated him a 'definate' top 10 pick, he didn't seem completely in awe of him.

I would probably ignore Butcher's form at the Championships and TAC cup this year. He's had an interrupted prep. but has shown the ability to become a gun power forward at this level (He kicked 5 goals and had a big game last week by some reports...). If his speed/agility results are impressive at the draft camp, its going to be hard to look past him imo.

Scully's a lock at 1 obviously.

But I think we really need a power forward who can kick 4 or 5 goals and break a game open. With the way zonal defenses are employed these days, tall athletic forwards who can take a contested mark inside-50 and convert from the set shot are as good as gold.

It would also mean that we wouldn't have to rely on Watts being the sole KP target up forward and we could rotate him through the middle more (where I think he can have a big impact in the long run ala Pavlich). Basically, it would give us greater flexibility up front imo.

Just watching Roughead & Franklin, and to a lesser extent Riewoldt & Koschitzke, it seems to me that having the two gun key targets just gives you so much more value for your inside 50 entries. Geelong and the Bulldogs have really struggled at times because of this. At times against good opposition, they just seem to have to work even harder to get their goals due to a lack of quality talls. It looks really laborious sometimes.

I still like the Scully/Butcher combo. because it would address two major needs of ours. Also, none of the other mids available appear to be of a 'mindblowing' calibre. Though if Trengove destroys Draft Camp, i might have to re-assess...

Hi all! First post here...

Hi.

I agree with your POV on our second pick, providing we rank Butcher up there with the other prospects.

I also think your comments re: the what the Club's looking for are correct - I'm sure BP's made a similar comment in the past.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
