draft picks in 2010

I was wondering if anyone knows what happens in 2010 with the draft picks,

say we only win 1 game this year and then next year we win 3 -4 do we still get the priority pick 1 or whats the go

the reason i ask this is because an extra draft pick in the top 10 is gold espeacially if they are limited with GC17 and West Sydney.

We could end up in a very strong position in 2011, 12 and beyond

i believe if you qualify for a priority pick, you jump ahead of the gold coast... the gold coast, don't have a "priority pick" they have the number one pick...

so lets say heaven forbid we only win 4 or less this year, and 4 or less next season, and we finish on the bottom in both, and assuming no other teams qualify for a priority pick, we would get picks 1&2 this year and 1 & 3 next year...

This is my understanding, too. Next year's draft is already determined. I really hope we go 3-7 for the rest of the year and North, Freo, Richmond and West Coast get to 20 points.

Err, they get a priority pick too... West Coast would get one before Round 1, the rest would get one before Round 2. So if any of those teams get a priority pick, it means our picks get pushed down the ladder by a position, and we would prefer to get the highest picks possible!

An added advantage is also having first crack at any players that have slipped through the first round -- any team besides WC finishing with under 16.5 points would push our 2nd round pick back a notch.

Yeah exactly, I don't get why people are forgetting that we got a priority pick last year at 17, which was hugely significant. Not necessarily the fact that it was "Pick #17", but because if meant we got - along with Pick 19 - three top-20 picks. Everyone else except us and WCE got one. That PP makes a big difference. If WC, Freo and Rich win four or less it means we will get 1, 3 and 21, which is quite different to 1, 2 and 18.

Im with you on this. 2009 Ought to be our last big drink at the watering hole then it should be topping up only from here on in. 2010 will be seriously constrained unless your name is Gold Coast. I was of the belief also that the normal practice of PP's would be modified to only come in prior to round two picks.

Any which way we ought to start playing proper and decent footy next year. If not then we'll never start any climb off the bottom

Gold Coast to have the capacity to sign 12 x 17 year-olds born in the January – April window (January 1 to April 30, 1992).

2. 2010 NAB AFL Draft

Gold Coast to have first pick in each round

Gold Coast to have selections 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 in round one

3. 2009 NAB Rookie Draft

Gold Coast to have selections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

4. 2010 NAB Rookie Draft

Gold Coast to alternate Queensland priority selections with Brisbane Lions. Gold Coast to have first selection

5. Zoned access

Gold Coast to have zoned access to up to five Queensland players prior to each of 2010, 2011 and 2012 NAB AFL Drafts

Gold Coast to have zoned access to up to three Northern Territory players prior to the 2010 NAB AFL Draft

6. 2010 Post-season, AFL listed player access

Gold Coast to have capacity to pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL Draft, or were previously listed with an AFL club.

Gold Coast would also have an expanded list size and TPP allowance in the club’s initial four years from 2011 to 2014, which would be as follows:

2011 – 48 senior list, nine rookies with $1m TPP extra allowance;

2012 – 46 senior list, nine rookies with $800k TPP extra allowance;

2013 – 42 senior list, nine rookies with $600k TPP extra allowance;

2014 – 40 senior list, nine rookies with $400k TPP extra allowance;

2015 – 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs.

As part of the entry rules for the Gold Coast side, the AFL Commission resolved that any club that lost a player to the expansion side would be eligible for a compensation pick (after the entry of both Gold Coast and the second club to be based in Sydney).

Compensation picks will be tradeable and can be used by clubs at any time within five years. First round compensation picks cannot be used until the end of the first round in the 2010 and 2011 drafts. Clubs will be required to nominate the year in which they plan to use the compensation pick before the first round of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season in that particular year.

The compensatory pick would be assessed around the player’s age (greater weighting for younger players), club contract ranking (greater weighting for club key players), onfield performance (greater weighting for strong club best and fairest performance) and draft position if less than four years experience.

This ranking system will then determine if a club is eligible for a compensatory pick in one of five spots – first-round pick, end-of-first-round pick, second-round pick, end-of-second-round pick or third-round pick. Under the model, the round-one, round-two or round-three picks would be taken immediately after the pick the club already has in that round in the draft that year.
