Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of 'an aggressive jack watts'.

I like the fact he is a hard taskmaster on himself but in all fairness he got better as the game went on and as he started to adjust to the speed. Still, if he constantly demands perfection from himself it can only rub off on the other kids coming through.

I still love you Jack!:wub:

It's great to see that he isn't satisfied and has the hunger to succeed and better himself.

He could have easily said "well that was my first game, it rained, and the team got smashed", but that he is angry at himself for his performance, shows he has the drive that all elite players possess.

Having said all that, his debut was in line with what you can realistically expect from an 18 year old schoolboy with no pre-season, 15kg underweight, and standing at 196cm. I actually think that Jurrah, despite coming from a lot further back with his training and development, is more of a chance to star in his first match than Jack Watts was. This of course means nothing in the context of their long term future.

With the excitement of Jurrah's debut, it really is ideal with the focus off Jack now for him to sit back and focus on the tasks at hand and not be sidetracked with interviews and a massive build up like the QB game.

In many ways last game he was the 'hunted', this week he's the 'hunter'....if you know what I mean...

Watts will improve gradually in his first season as all other first round draftees usually do. Jack Ziebell and Stephen Hill didn't have brilliant debut games in Round 1. I think that Watts will kick 2-3 goals tomorrow night.

Just play your game Jack-Give it your all & the results will come.

I am Glad he was dirty on himself-Just means he sets high standards. As all our players must do.

Absolutely WYL.

Not sure what to say about an 18 year old debutant bashing himself up about a "bad" game. Don't really know how much insight that gives us, but I wouldn't expect him to start having an impact suddenly because he beat himself around. Just focussing on his game, without the ridiculous hype, will get him the results.

I think it`s going to take Jack a few weeks to find his feet. He seemed a bit unsure where to run and where he should be. Probably hasn`t been to as many team meetings as others.

I`m sure he`ll pick it up pretty quick though, he`s a smart kid.

Watts to atone. Mind you, he only has about 12 years to atone for what wasn't too bad a match in a game we were smashed in.

More reason to be excited for tonight though

I thought the same thing.

Makes me wonder why some people were saying this was the match of the decade :P

It was always going to be more fun to watch Watts in a couple of years time.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
