Holds himself very well and IMHO he seems to have matured a lot over the last 12 months.....

Speaks really well and is obviously starting to finally feel comfortable playing the game at the highest level.... I would have no hesitation in making him a captain in the future after seeing/listening to him this season!

Go Dees!

The most interesting thing he said was that he has lost 3-4 kilos in the past few weeks, because he went overboard in the gym over summer (how does the club let this happen??), and got a bit too big.

He realises that he needs to lose muscle without losing strength to enable him to run out games better.

Also mentioned that he couldn't run until after Christmas because of the ankle reconstruction, so is lagging behind. Quarters asked him if he's the fittest he's ever been, and he said no.

Seems to have grown up a lot and recognises that his past indiscretions were the wake up calls that he needed.

Should captain this club as of next year IMHO.

Also when he was asked to name a few younger players at the club who he thinks have what it takes to really make it at AFL level, the names he gave were great to hear! :)

Jamie Bennell - Great ability to beat his opponent, but also great ability to run the ball out of the backline and deliver to a teammate.

Jack Watts - Seemed like he didn't want to harp on too much about our great hope, but said enough to wet the appetite for his future.

James Strauss - A hard-nosed player who will run the lines and could play off the half back or half forward and push to play in the midfield.

Jack Grimes - Quality player (he obviously really rates this kid) who has leadership written all over him! WooHoo!

Also made the point, when asked about our training facilities, that our new training base should be up and running next year and looking forward to having their own gym, recovery baths etc...

When asked if it makes a difference when they see clubs like West Coast, Adelaide and Collingwood who have $hitloads of members and money, he replied that money is good but not having as much is no excuse for not reaching your potential.... Money, members and training facilities do not substitute EFFORT and COMMITTMENT!!

I loved his comment that money doesn't buy you attitude, and that you can still be hungry and competitive and have the will to improve even if you don't have first rate facilities.

When asked about his $10,000 donation last year, he said he doesn't like to talk about it, but basically he felt it wasn't fair that players sit back and expect supporters to pay for better facilities, while the players get to benefit, so he wanted to help the cause.

He is a champ!

Love the way Brock is handling himself in the media lately. Great stuff.

Great point about not being able to buy effort and commitment. Love it.

Thanks guys.

I thought his comments about Colin Sylvia were quite astute. He had dinner with Col before the show and mentioned that he had been urged by the leadership group to work on being consistent from week to week and not get wrapped up in the odd single good performance from time to time. Brock said that Colin was now better equipped to handle himself because he had started some meaningful involvements outside of football during the week that allowed him to be more focussed.

The rest of this season will go a long way to deciding Col's future at Melbourne IMHO....

He has the opportunity to really stamp himself as one of the A graders of the competition this year..... If his form continues as it has over the last few weeks, we could be hearing a lot more about our No. 12 in the second half of the season! He has the size, toughness, skill and goal kicking ability to really make a name for himself....

It is there is you want it Col..... It really is!

Listen to ya mate Brock and keep up the good attitude....

He's definitely putting himself out there and handling himself well. I only noticed one very minor gaffe and that was when the panel was asked to name the best Indigenous player they'd ever seen and he named Phil Matera. IMO Phil was a bit of a pest as a forward pocket crumber but not in Peter Matera's league and I'm certain Brock meant to say Peter, not Phil. All in all however, he's definitely maturing and looks a good show to take over the captaincy mantle next year.

WJ I thought the same.

Also said Grimes would be a superstar!

God I hope so.

Was very good to hear him speak, he is honest and tries not to throw out the normal club policy lines and tries to answer the questions truthfully without going over the top ie Aker.

anyone know if they repeat this show anytime today or this week?

Jaded pretty much covered it in a post up the page a bit and theres an article in the age about Brocky as our next captain- and transcripts from what he said are quoted there

GOTTA BE THE NEXT CAPTAIN DOESN'T HE? (if he stays uninjured)

So well spoken, articulate, knows where we're going and explained it and each topic covered perfectly.

can't believe some numbnut started a thread about wanting to trade him yesterday!!

juz going there now <_<

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
