With the AFL bring in the Free Agency Policy as discussed on SEN allowing 1 player from to go to GC17 from each club which MFC player would we give them and who would be the one player off limits? Thoughts?

They can have Dunn, Bate, Sylvia or Bruce. I'm not fussed which one.

I wouldnt cry if we lost one of Bruce, Dunn, Bate, Sylvia, Cheney, McNamara, Whelan, Buckley, Wheatley, Bartram

It's not that I don't rate any of these players but I can't see any big holes left in our list without them and it wouldn't be the end of the world if we lost one of them.

I think they want Morton who comes out of contract at the end of the season....

Yeah, anyone from that list wouldn't do us much harm if they were to leave (though we'd best reserve judgement on McNamara until we see him play).

Include Newton.

McNamara... what I've seen of him live is impressive, I'd be more than happy if he's in our squad over the next 2 to 3 years.

so would i, but we do have a lot of very good defenders so if someone had to go and it was him, i dont think that it could impede on us winning a premiership...

of course, how did i forget to add newton to that list...

Why doesnt the club jump on the front foot and start signing up all our important players??

Do we get any compensation if they take one of our players, like one of their draft picks?

Wouldn't be fussed to give away either dunn, bartram, bell, petard, Bruce or green wouldn't bother me.

Miller should be in there he's only played 1 good game against the powerful Richmond and 5 mins against the wobbles and West Coast. He is a very ordinary player.

Miller isnt the only one on the list to have a couple of bad games this season.

Your names sake for example.

I think you will find that if you took some time and watched Miller play, he deserves more than what your one liner suggests.

I agree on Brad Miller, he's a queenslander and will be turning 28 in 2011 so I think both parties would be happy enough with the parting, especially if we pick up Butcher in the coming draft with Watts and Jurrah also developing.

Expect to see Miller as the first FF and Vice-captain of the new Gold Coast team.

As I understand the rule, I think that GC have the right to take any uncontracted player they like from our list without any compensation, but that's contingent on the player agreeing to go there. Hopefully none of our players leave under such circumstances, but if the player and the GC agree on a contract, then we don't have any say in it at all unfortunately.

havnt we done this topic in a few other threads the past weeks?

Cale Morton on GC hit list includes a link to the article which describes the compo recieved.

Players safe from being poached by the Gold Coast players who are contracted, uncontracted and whoi we dop/don't want them to take.

AFL secret draft gold Coasts swoop on uncontracted players

edit: anyway, this thread isn't actually about free agency, its just about the GC17 uncontracted player grab. thats not free agency, thats stay, draft or GC.

Cale Morton will be offered a huge bucket of money. it may be a matter of whether we can match it. Morton will have to summon up a Robbie Flower quantum of loyalty to stay in the red and blue.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
