I just wanted to know if there are any Melbourne supporters with any chips on there shoulders from the past or know of any supporters or family members that have.

I ask this as i heard somewhere that an old lady turned her back on Barassi due to the fact that he left our club to go to carlton.

If so how can they be fixed? I mean considering all the positive stuff coming out of Melbourne at the moment it would be good to have the future more united.

I know of several whose main gripe is the proplonged lack of success. One bloke who loved his sport and footy was always extremely pessimistic about the MFC. I would always give him a hard time because he would buy membership of other clubs that had better chances to reach the Grand Final so he could go (Brisbane was his choice for several years).

For him and many like him, the only "cure" is success and if they are old enough to remember the 50's and 60's it may very well have to be prolonged success.

The reason I have barracked for Melbourne for my 39 yrs is due to my mother being a once die-hard Melbourne supporter. I used to go every week with her up until I was 21 or so. After the way Ridley was treated and the fact that Gutnick actually became president her passion began to wane. The sacking mid season of Balme was the last straw and she has never supported the Dees since.

She still loves her footy and watches all games on tv that she can but no longer has anymore passion for Melbourne than many other teams. She's a very stubborn person and I believe her decision is irreversible.

Maintaining old grudges is gifting other clubs premierships. Just look at Richmond/ Bartlett/ Wallace and the divisiveness that quickly spreads and festers over decades. As an eight year old I was stunned when Barassi left Melbourne. By the time of Dennis Jones as coach i was legless. The Gutnick era caused a lot of heartache in recent times, but i think the club now is more united than ever. You only have to feel the atmosphere aroiund the cheer squad to appreciate the difference. this in turn rubs off on the players. note the way they ran to the supporters on the fence after the game on Sunday.

Get in contact with the club and the membership department on the website, you never know they might be able to get a special call made ala the debt demolition calls by players. Failing that I like the mothers day idea! just make sure she is given red and blue flowers!

Not this old fart S_T! I was around in the 50's and 60's and our success way back then just makes my desire to taste it again even stronger. Bring on #13!!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
