Like you I have my reservations but at present we don't have any other options and I definately don't think Stef Martin is the man to do it.

I dont either but I have seen nothing from Newton that suggests he is an AFL footballer at the moment. Its a pity because at times he has done the mecurial in the VFL and you think this guy could be something. But its just lost between the ears. He was recruited with a big question mark on attitude in 2004 at pick #46(?).

Unless they really changes I would prefer to be spared the further embarrassment of his feeble efforts at the ball. What we have now is not good but I get a general sense of really trying hard (question on Bate though)

Hell, the bickie barrel is bare down there.

Anyone for Rivers down there and play Martin on Cloke?

gc17 doesnt get their draft picks until next year. they do get to poach kids before this years draft takes place. how many / what if they all reject the move?

From the way I read it, GC17 can 'tag' 12 x 17 year olds this year (2009). New rules direct that 17 year olds cannot be drafted at the end of this year (2009). At the end of next year those 'tagged' by GC17 will be 18 and GC17 can either trade them for (extra) draft picks or unilaterally sign them themselves. If the 'kids' don't want to move then they probably don't really want to play AFL football.

Along with GC17's 2010 ensured draft picks of 1,3,5,6,9, &/etc or whatever, there'll be very slim pickin's for everyone else. Hence the desperate need for Demons to do everything they can (or can't) to ensure as many early picks as possible at the end of this year (2009).

No, i'm not going feral because is the worst player to pull on a demons jumper (other than jamie shanahan). i'm feral because some posters are so biased and blind that they think Miller is a fractionally below average player when he is just so much worse than that.

95% people on here just have no idea what it takes to be a good player. Miller looks great sure, big frame etc..but his game is equally as unimpressive.

Also, most people were on here saying how bad Leigh Harding was and that they cant believe the 'Harding hack' is still playing. Yet i was the one who stated that Harding had the potential to tear us apart. Looks like i was right again...where did all those amateurs go? The sooner the m.f.c make me their recruiting manager the earlier we will win a flag

Great to see your modesty Freak.

Miller was given absolutely no room to lead up on Sunday. He is a lead up forward and does his best work when he isnt deep in the forward 50.

The problem with Millers game IMO is that he can get lost when he pushes up, and finds himself in no mans land.

Much like D. Neitz, he cant kick goals from deep inside 50.

I find it strange that you would take an approach of 'just kick it long' with no targets at all, apposed to a strong mark and good kick (on his day) like Miller.

Miller is filling a MASSIVE hole in our forward line, and is providing a target, and might I add, taking some of the best defenders. His game day work ethic is fantastic. Lets give him a shot...

You will never be able to get that through to Freak, Rusty......

Brad could kick ten goals while finding a cure for cancer, and then save a newborn from a flooded river, and Freak would still throw abuse and disloyal vitriol at him with glee.

I have long been a defender of Miller and will continue to be so until someone, anyone else becomes available to do the job that he currently performs for this team.

As a preface, although new to Demonland, I do like to imagine that I have some 'cred' in having actually been at the '64 GF as a 10 year old and barracking for the Demons before then and ever since.

I've been in the first to say for years that Brad Miller isn't really an AFL level player.

BUT.

Obviously we haven't got anyone else that presents themselves as a better option. Now I say,

"Well done to you Brad Miller, you are doing as best as you can do and we should all appreciate that and admire you for it".

Meanwhile, as quite a few have said, we now need to have renewed patience. It's ridiculous to continue to complain about our KPP stocks when that deficiency has now most obviously and publicly addressed by the club most clearly with our no:1 draft selection. As suggested previously, we need more than one KPP (forward) and I'm quite confident that the football department is well aware of this.

Do we need the (assured) 'priority pick' as well? I think so.

There are only so many gun 17-18 year olds around and, ominously, this season GC17 have first dibs on twelve of the best 17 year olds in the country.

Carlton has shown what is required if you are serious about rebuilding towards a flag. Swallow the cr#p, bite the bullet, (and all those other cliches), and let the club rebuild and work on the list without the endless, moronic, constant carping of all you losers. I've been lurking around this site for a couple of years now and I know who you are and you know who you are:

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE , GIVE IT A BREAK !!

Amen Dusty.......

I've been a massive critic of Miller, but I actually thought that he'd found his niche last season when he played closer to goal, and seemed to make the most of limited opportunities. And his kicking was fairly accurate.

This season, his kicking seems to have gone back to the bad old days, but I'm still prepared to cut him some slack, because our forward structure and ball movement into the forwardline are diabolical.

Miller didn't play well yesterday, but he created at least two or three goals through his competitive nature. I also noticed he got injured just before half time.

Just saying.

Miller Bate Davey

Wona Dunn Maric

I reckon this has some merit given we dont have a deep well to draw from.

Miller simply doesnt understand how to work the square. Leave him as a hit up forward who can offload. This he CAN do. Maric is a crumber extraodinaire..and Aussie when back adds dimension and zest..and a whole lot of worry for the defending opposition :) Bate can bomb away from fifty like its a picnic. Dunn woould be an interesting experiment for sure. ..and he actually knows where the goals are. Davey would enjoy the space he requires

A worthwhile setup to try

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
