I hope to get there myself.

Are Danny Hughes and Rhys Healey injured?

Would have thought they would have been in the reserves

Danny Hughes is, I spoke to him at the AGM and he said he would miss a few games in the pre season. Hopefully he is close to playing again. Don't know about Rhys.

All right Sylvia, you think you're top of the pops? It's time to show us, dominate this week at Casey and get your ______ back in the senior side.

Sylvia to kick 9

Casey struggling at quarter time 0.3.3 to Frankston 4.3.27.

Best Casey player - Wall and of the Demons Maric and Zomer are the better players. Otherwise, most of the Melbourne players are struggling to be effective and, based on his start, it's doubtful whether Sylvia will get 9 kicks let alone kick 9 goals.

Aussie is not out there at all!

After conceding the first goal of the second quarter, the Scorpions lifted. The comeback from Casey was sparked by a couple of nice goals from Jurrah and a clever goal to Maric who is a class above most of the others on the ground. Newton and Bail got a bit of the ball and Meesen who is improving as the game goes on, won plenty of hit outs.

A couple of moves - Zomer is playing down back while Stef Martin is playing forward with the odd run on the ball. Shane Valenti is getting his hands on the footy but is not always effective. The Scorps are getting a bit of drive from newcomer Pierce Liddle from NT. Nick Scanlon looks to be a dangerous player up forward. Peter Faulks and Ben Waite doing well for Casey.

A late goal to Frankston sees them holding a 14 point lead - 7.7.49 to Casey 5.5.35

Can't wait to see Maric back in the team - maybe next week.

Anyone remember that freak impossible goal he almost kicked on the boundary V Richmond in rd 22 last year.

The boy can smell a goal.

After seeing him last week was a little disappointed he didn't get a game for MFC. Think he might need a couple of runs at Casey to get the fitness up a bit more but he is very exciting.

KC is Wonna not playing at all today?

Should we be worried that Aussie is not playing?

Reported on 'ology by Neitzstar that he only walked laps at training and didn't want to kick a ball 10 metres.

I'd guess he strained it again.

Sounds like it. Damn.

At least Maric seems to be playing well.

I spoke to both Aussie and Jack Grimes over the fence today at Junction Oval, both said about 2 weeks away, Aussie confirmed it is his hammy again and [censored] off about it

Thanks.

Such a shame for Aussie to have a delay-start given how much hard work he put into his body over the summer. Still, it gives both Jetta and Bennell a fantastic opportunity to gain some experience. I doubt both would play if Aussie was fit.

Grimes being 2 weeks away sounds very optimistic.

I can confirm that Aussie is out because of a hamstring strain. Not good news and he'll probably be out for a couple more weeks and then he'll need time at Casey to recover full match fitness.

The flip side of that is that Addam Maric is looking very likely as a goal sneak forward. He's clever, he's cheeky, he takes risks and the crowds will love him. I get the feeling that, at this level, he's too quick for some of his teammates but he's looking the goods. The other news is that John Meesen has been controlling the rucks and is getting kicks around the ground in what is easily the best game I've seen him play. I wouldn't say he'll be a dominating footballer at the level above because his opposition ruckman is no world beater. Liam Jurrah now has three goals but still looks to be lacking condition and needs more work before he can be considered for higher honours. Rohan Bail has added a lot of run and is moving well around the ground. Newton and Sylvia are in and out of the game and more is expected if they want to play in top company.

Casey kept coming at Frankston and moved to within less than a goal late in the quarter before kicking a goal on the siren to go to a 9.12.66 lead to 8.7.55.

Frankston 12.15.87 defeated Casey 12.12.84

Ball was going into Casey's forward line as the siren sounded.

The Scorpions left their run just a little late. They allowed Frankston to break away to a three goal lead early in the final term. Players like Sylvia, Newton and Valenti all lifted but the team probably didn't deserve to win because of their poor start.

Jurrah and Maric sat out the last quarter, the latter being an outside chance of playing AFL in the next couple of weeks.

Wall was the best Casey player. We also saw a very good debut from NT's Pierce Liddle who looks to have a promising future. The team missed skipper Matthews as well as Austin Wonaeamirri who pulled out with hamstring soreness.

Just got in saw last 2 1/2 quarters mainly watched the forwards

Jurrah worked into it nicely got better with time didnt see him for most of last q did clever things

Sylvia played up forward and moved to the middle in the last got into his own when there got better as game went

Meesen tried hard all day worthy project so far

Stef Martin payed up forward kept presenting all day nice move to try him there missed from 30 mts kin last q

Newton played chf well to me it looked that way always up the ground is working hard at his defensive side dii god things

Valenti didnt see much but like i said wasnt watching mids or backs kicked nice goal in last when wandered down

Maric works hard all day wont be long before he is in the seniors

overall the umpires didnt give much chance to the scorps but the scorps looked lucky to be that close at the end

No Aussie as previously stated nor Linden Dunn

As for the rest of Melbourns list sorry guys didnt really look far was concentrating more on Jurrah and the rest of the forwards, alsao liked the lok of number 24 Peirce Liddle (is he the one Aaron Davey recomended)

Thats correct. Aaron convinced him to come to the Scorpions. Saw him in the reserves last week and he was a cut above the rest. good to see he did well in the ones.

Good move!

If we can develop Martin into a multi-dimensional tall (hopefully we'll have more success than we did with Miller <_< ), it will help us cover a multitude of deficiencies while still ensuring that Martin doesn't miss out on senior game time due to team balance issues.

His kicking seems to be the only skill that he lacks as a forward, however goal kicking is probably one of the most fixable qualities in a player. His size, strength and marking ability are natural attributes that will most likely serve him well.

Besides, he learnt to be a defender in what, 8 weeks? Give him another 4 and he'll win the Coleman ;)

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
