Training Reports and Injury Updates

First training session I've ever been to so I won't comment on that. Spirits seemed high though.

- Colin Sylvia came off after an hour or two and overheard him say to a trainer that he had stiffness in his back. Didn't see him again and I have no idea how serious the issue is. Read into it if you wish.

- Ricky Petterd was with the rehab group with about 5 or so others but only got an hour in before icing his hamstring for the rest of training.

The draftees also had an introduction to the facilities and they met a few of the other players. They'll commence training later in the week.

Its not as stupid as it sounds. Could have a small problem in his hamstring, hip or neck, which could all cause tightness in the back. Still doesn't sound good though.

Petterd is a concern. hope he can get on the park a bit this year.

I hear it's a brain related back injury :D

Seriously, just because someone pulls up tight from training, does not mean they have done a serious injury that will ruin their season. In fact, that he pulled up sore means he's actually working hard and doing something. The same goes for Petterd. Maybe he's just a bit sore from an earlier session, and they are giving him some time off.

It's very normal that after weeks of hard training, players are feeling the strain.

Since when does going to training and making a few uninformed observations on players' niggles constitute an 'injury update'?

This thread is just annoying.

Most helpful, thanks

im greatful that he bothered to go down to training and make some observations and report them on demonland

I'm grateful for those that do this to, the title of the thread is totally misleading and alarmist though, it is not an Injury Update at all, he does not even know if these players are injured.

Whilst it is probably not earth shattering injury news, some people like to read if one of the players actually "sneeze" at training. For all we know, Sylvia was probably just saying he was a "bit stiff", that's all. Then had a lengthy spell in the loo.

He's reported what he has seen. If it's not enough for you, that's fine. By the way whilst it may be a little misleading it's hardly "alarmist" IMO.

Been to training 4 or 5 times at Casey. Went down on Monday and today.

Without going into great detail DB said that players were generally fitter than last year. He doesn't seem to get too excited about anything, which is good as we have a long way to go.

Training is very repetitive, as they seem to do the same drills each each session. They play touch football (handballing rather than throwing). They do a similar drill using tennis balls. The also do some set plays kicking and handballing.

I spoke to Ricky Petterd when he had ice on his left hammy. He said it was just a bit tight. He went back out on the field and did some light training after about 20 minutes. I didn't see Colin Sylvia today. I overheard that Clint Bartram rolled his ankle (don't know when) and went to the pool.

Tom Rockliff trained on Monday and today. Seemed a bit unsure of himself on Monday as he did not know anybody. He trained well today and looked confident in his ability. He did well and knows what to do in front of goal. Not particularly athletic, but a natural footballer. A non high-flying version of Robbo. All the recruits (except Watts) trained today. Watts had school commitments. Jetta looked really good in the touch football. Has a lot of flair about him.

The player that has really impressed me in the last couple of weeks is big Jake Spencer. I saw him at Trinity last year and he seemed like a fish out of water. Now he looks supremely confident and has been super impressive in the drills. Good ball handling and athletic. I mentioned his name to an official of the club and he was very excited about his improvement.

Trent Zomer has turned into a big bodied player and also seemed to do well in most of the drills.

Of the invitees Danny Hughes and Sam O' Sullivan are impressive. Danny has overcome his injuries and like all the players is (training the house down). Jordie McKenzie also looks a likely type. Marcus White looks a clone of Clint Bartram but seems to have better ball skills.

Last year we did not draft any of the invitees. Therefore, I guess we should not get too excited. However, going out on a limb my best guess is that next Tuesday I would not be surprised if we add the following players to our list:-

Tom Rockliff, Danny Hughes, Sam O'Sullivan and a player training with another club.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
