Good news :)

I have heard an interview once with him and from the responses he gave the journo this kid really seems to have a level head and could really be that media savy player we lack at our club.

Jack Watts :):)

WATTS hinted at looking forward to playing at Dees after commenting on their rebuilding list and "a really bright future". Before adding, "It will be great to go to Melbourne... or any other club."

Jesaulenko...You Beauty!! That is enough evidence for me.

Roll out the RED carpet Dees Fans.....

edit: Those not keen on Watts, get used to him.

What number should we put aside for him. No.9?

-thought I'd get in first. he wore No.4 in the Championships, No.4 is available too!

Ooh, what will it be No.4 or No.9.

I'll say No.9 with Neita to hand it over.

Any young kid who speaks like that about a club he isn't currently playing for/barracks for is obviously a good kid.

Maybe he will play with a bit of passion for the jumper, thats the one thing ive heard from a guy I know at Brighton is that he bled for the Brighton jumper. Didn't really care about the TAC teams as they were not his club. This in my opinion is a good sign he will care about the Dees as we will be his club.

Number 4, make it his own.

No need to give him the pressure of number 9, plus it won't be that big of a deal to him, I assume he has never met him, doesn't barracked for the Dees and therefore isn't his hero like Neita is ours and it wouldn't really be a big deal to him, giving the number to someone like Moloney makes more sense, but to be honest, just let it slide for one season.

Whats wrong with 4.... Im not understanding people not wanting this number, it will be great and he can make it his own!! So in 10-15 years time we are all arguing about if the next kid should get number 4.

When looking at our young up-n-comers, a talented tall forward is definitely the most important position that needs filling. Remember last year we picked up Morton and Grimes and there will probably still be 2 gun midfielders at pick 17 and pick19.

Defensive talent---

Talls:

Frawley (19yo)- is no doubt touted as a 10 yr player for us. Needs to fill out to play on the big forwards, but has pace. 194cm.

S.Martin (20yo)- 198cm, quick as lightning, big frame and strong as well. Very agile, his basketball background attributing to this. Huge promise

Garland (19yo)- Probably the best tall young defender in the afl. good mark, good punch, quick and agile.

Flankers:

Buckley (20yo)- Love his dash and attack on the game

Pettard (20yo)- very talented if can get back out on the park

Midfielders:

Morton (19yo)- our most talented best young prospect at the club. will be a gun no doubt

Grimes (19yo)- in the words of Bailey "will play atleast 100games for the club". Club rates him hugley so must have some serious talent

Mclean (22yo)- Our best player.

N. Jones (20yo)- will be great in-n-under if he's our 4th or 5th best midfielder. Sewelesk.

Dunn (21yo)- Stagnated this year, but atleast showed he could be a good run-with player

pick 17

pick 19

Forward talent----

Talls:

Watts (17yo)- Number 1 pick, looks like a champion CHF

Newton (21yo)- i dont rate him, but who knows.

Flankers:

Maric (19yo)- Looks awesome. great user of the ball. hasn't shown us his goalkicking ability yet, but apparently its awesome.

Sylvia (22yo)- broke out this year. i love the kid, hope he continues to improve

Bate (21yo)- top 3 in bnf last season, not as good this year, but the kid has huge talent.

Wonaeamirri (19yo)- i dont think he'll become a star, but a clever lil player.

Analysing our young list (all players mentioned were drafted in the past 4 years), a key forward is clearly the missing ingredient.

Watts= obvious answer.

Flankers and tall defenders look pretty good.

I'd look to draft 2 midfielders with pick 17 and pick 19.

A ruckman with a later pick should also be a priority

Like what? 64? I'm pretty sure someone's used most other numbers before.

Not that it matters at all, but if I'd like to see him in 9, just to keep up the trend of no. 9 at FF. At least our supporters will still be able to say 'Go number 9' when/if the ball goes inside our forward 50.

Because Watts is so hard to pronounce? If we draft Watts I have no doubt that every Melbourne supporter will know exactly what his name is and what his number is

If we get Zaharakis then we might have a few people yelling "go No.??"

Nice to read something positive about the Demons for once:

With Melbourne having the first pick in the draft, Watts is right in the mix to head to the Demons. And despite the red and blue's bottom-of-the-ladder season in 2008, the 194cm tall is not averse to lining up with the Dees.

"Every club has had their turn on the bottom and it's all about that rebuilding stage and Melbourne is going through that stage at the moment," Watts said.

"I think they've got a really bright future and they've got some great young talent at the club, so it'll be great to go to Melbourne or any of the clubs. Hopefully I can add that [young talent]."

Number 9 for sure, Roughead can take number 4 if he's taken at pick 19.

Say hello to 'Luke Molan - The Sequel'.

Luckily Barry Prendergast has a clue and will take Naitanui.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
