Quite possibly one of the worst posts i have ever read!!!

Firstly you have us getting Wonamerri back from his trade to Brisbane. It will be tough for both us and Freo to have pick 35 and collingwood and us pick 17. The biggest laugh of all in this is the fact Freo might allow Warnock to go through to the PSD

Not quite if you read properly. Firstly Melbourne will trade picks 17 to Collingwood and 35 to Fremantle. Also Carroll to be traded to Fremantle and Wonamerri to Brisbane. In return for Melbourne receive draft pick 9 from Collingwood and R. Warnock goes to us in the pre-season draft.

No way should we get rid of Rivers, when he's up and going he's one of the best defenders if not the best defender in the comp!

Regardless of the ridiculous trade that you suggested.... The above comment is one of the biggest loads of crap I have ever heard! I rate Rivers as a handy "intelligent" type defender.... But to suggest that he may be the best defender in the comp?!?!?! :D :D :D

Honestly do believe that Rivers when playing fully fit is one of the best defenders in the comp. Can't remember the last time his opponent beat him in a match up throughout a game. Maybe Riewoldt when Rivers was playing on him at full back in his rising star award season of 2004 when Nick kicked 9. But even then his first 4 came in the first quarter against Nicholson.

When fully fit, he is one of the better defenders in the league.... Absolutely!

Possibly the best in the league?? Absolutely NOT!

Fully fit ever again??? The answer to that is more ????????

Aaron Davey to Essendon for Brent Stanton and pick 23

Matthew Warnock and pick 19 to Carlton for Brad Fisher and pick 24

I like the Warnock trade but not the Davey trade.

No and No for me.

Brent Stanton is not quick enough IMO and is just an average-good midfielder, who can't kick both feet. We already have a smorgasboard of them.

Why oh why, would you take Brad Fisher? If Carlton supporters are frustrated with him, why would we take him? And lose a handy backman who is improving.

Stanton is quicker than anyone in our current midfield.

As for Fisher, we need more avenue to goals. Fisher is a good mark and kick, both mobile and tall. Can push up to half forward or play deep.

Yeah, and Russel Robertson doesn't have much time left.

Once he's gone we'll need another under-sized forward forced to play as a KPP

Would take the first one. I rate Stanton and he's shown he can not only get the ball but can kick goals from midfield. Have real doubts over Davey's ability to become a good midfielder, and his consistency.

Wouldn't touch the second though. Doesn't seem to be an upgrade and the defence is probably an area where the more stable we can make it, the better.

Agreed. Would take the first one in a flash but the bumbres must be high to do that. They've got a fleet of Aaron DAvey like players already and to give away their second pick and a solid maybe good up and comer in Stanton, good luck.

The second smells of trading for the sake of trading.

I would trade pick 19 for Robbie Gray. Bring him back home.

How about Daniel Kerr? Anyone reckon there would be anyway to trade for him and still hang on to pick 1? I'd imagine we'd have to kiss picks 17 & 19 goodbye and probably be looking at loosing CJ also. Probably no chance I'd imagine?

Daniel Bell -----------> Adelaide

Ken McGregor -------> Melbourne

No draft picks involved.

We get a handy player who can pinch hit up forward or down back, capable of kicking 30 goals in a season and can kick bags of 4 or 5 goals per game. Is contracted for 2009, so hopefully Adelaide can pay a bit of his salary. I doubt he'd be in Adelaide's future plans, but isn't overly old at 27.

Another advantage is that we don't give up a draft pick for Mc Gregor, so we're maintaining our youth policy while addressing our impotent forward line.

Terrible trade. No way.

What does McGregor offer us other than a mediocre player that fills a spot for a couple of years preventing a young player from getting AFL experience? We'll get less out of him than we would Bell

A stop-gap trade instead of a constructive one.

BPP where are you hearing these Daniel Bell back to adelaide rumours?

I just read your bigfooty thread

No rumours mate.

I just feel that it would be a beneficial trade to let Bell go back home. Had a poor season, so may need a change of environment while we get a draft pick or possibly a player.

A third round trade or a Greg Bentley would suffice.

So how do you address our forward line which was statistically the worst?

And as I mentioned previously, McGregor would not come at the expense of a draft pick, as we've traded a player (Bell) for him so we maintain our quota of draft picks. Plus Bell may need a fresh start, heck he was our whipping boy all year.

This from bigfooty trade/draft board:

According to someone on the Port board, Bailey is keen on Greg Bentley and might be headed to Melbourne (source is one of Bentleys SANFL teammates) so maybe a Bell-Bentley trade might be on the cards.

I have it on very good authority that your coach is very keen for bentley

I don't think getting an old player with only 2-3 years left in him is the answer, especially if he's not even that good, regardless of what we give up. We're much better off using our young players & draft picks beacuse they MIGHT develop and be handy in the future - McGregor will be gone.

& trades for the sake of trades are pointless.

I guess it just shows how little i rate McGregor as a player. He's not the answer.

No idea who Bentley is, don't think i've even heard of him til now. Sounds young though, so I'm open to it.

Bentley's played 21 games over 3 years. 187 cms. Played quite a few games in Port's good 2007 season. Last played in round 18 V's St Kilda when he jagged 21 touches and a goal.

If he's not in Adelaide's future plans, why would he be in ours?

He'll be retiring just as we start pushing for finals.

Pointless to pick him up IMO, but it'll never happen anyhow - refer Bailey's comments re: youth policy.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
