I'm almost certain Mark Jamar will go

i reckon Naitanui is almost a better proposition than watts

warnock, naitanui, pj can play anywhere he's so goddam good

white can be traded and same too with jamar, so we get something in return

we should trade as many as we can to try and schnag a few more picks

mate, if geelong can trade steven king for a draft pick, we can do the same

your off your head

he's 30. averaging career high disposals for us and the only reason was dropped was because bailey wanted to see if jamar could actually do anything (which he cant)

Posted

it has been claimed by CC that robbie warnock will be our number 1 ruckman

i dont think melbourne honestly has plans for natanui

out the door at seaons end should be: yze, holland, white, bode, weetra, one of whelan/wheatley, neitz (i hoped newton)

in: pick 1, 17, 18, other draft picks, some rookies and robbie warnock

if we were going to trademore players, i wouldnt be upset if sylvia or bartram names were put on the table

green, bruce, mcdonald, robertson should all stay

First off, this belongs in the Draft/Trading section. And secondly, if you think we could actually trade White and get something in return, you're off your head.

Why not? Plenty of aged ruckmen get traded late in their careers. Why not White? I suspect the word is the only reason he was in and out of the side this year is the youth policy. White CAN play better footy and is only 30... He's just done at the dees. Nothing wrong with that.

As for Jamar... I was the first at the start of the year to say he'd be gone. He's had an improved 2008, no doubt about it, but I'm utterly unenthused about him being at the demons long into the future. He'll only ever be an average footballer. So if he's traded or delisted I won't be upset. But my feeling is he'll still be there next year.

We already have so many mandatory retirings. Neitz, Yze, Holland, White... Weetra, maybe Bode... (was Bode re-signed earlier this season?)

I also had CJ in there, but he's well and truly lifted himself off the canvas and is now just about in our best 22. I'd given up hope that he'd start showing his class.

Given those 6 guys above, I can only imagine we'll need to offload another 2 or so to make way for Warnock and 6 new draft picks, plus a trade just in case...

And assuming we don't trade Bell for a third rounder or something...

The only guy really that's in the gun is Jamar. Bartram is too young, Robbo will probably stay, Meesen (I think) has to do a second year of his contract, Newton was re-signed... There's really no-one else I can see us losing.

Jamar has had a very solid year.

He is a very nice tap ruckman, and with White seemingly gone and Meesen showing nothing there is definitely a place for him on the list.

Even if we pick up Warnock, every club needs at least three ruckmen.

And, hypothetically, if we were to pick up Naitanui I doubt if he would play in the ruck all that much in his first 1-2 years because it's a very physically demanding position.

We had the chance to trade/delist Jamar at the end of last year, but we didn't. DB and myself obviously see something most others don't.

King got traded for like pick 90 which wasn't used by St Kilda

Jamar has played his best footy this year when White is not in the side. He is no champion, but is experienced with a strong body and as you say, every club needs at least three ruckmen.

Jamar is contracted for next year... besides which he is a required play, even as a back-up ruckman.

With white gone, our only rucks next year are Jamar and PJ (can't really count Meesan) and possibly Warnock.

OUT: 7 players

Neitz

Yze

Holland

White

Bode- delisted

Weetra- delisted

Bruce or Green traded for pick 10-20.

nb: i think Carrol is contract next year so can't be delisted... i'd be looking to turn over 1 more player (8 players overall), not sure who it would be???

IN: 9 players

pick 1

pick 17

pick 19

pick 15 (acquired from trading Bruce or Green)

pick 35

pick 51

Valenti- rookie upgrade

Wonaeamirri- rookie upgrade

Matthew Warnock (pick 1 PSD)

If we only turn over 8 players, then possibly keep one of the 2 rookie-boys on the rookie list for next season.

I agree with a lot of that sylvinator but for a few points:

- We will not get such a high pick for Bruce or Green. First round picks are like gold this year with the upcoming compromised drafts. Teams are not going to depart with early picks for 28/29 year-old players who are very good but not elite.

- If we can arrange a swap of draft picks with Carlton for White that would be good. Even if it's something like White + 35 for 24 or White + 51 for 40 (if the first option is too ambitious). I accept we won't get much for White but improving our draft position would be worthwhile.

- I wouldn't upgrade Valenti. I don't think he has shown enough to suggest he can be part of an improving midfield.

- I think Aussie is entitled to another year as a rookie. As a result, I'd keep him on the rookie list and if he performs well again, would upgrade him next year.

You may be right about Green or Bruce... but i have a strange feeling opposition clubs rate both players, particularly bruce. i wouldn't be overly surprised if a later first/early 2nd round pick was offered... nonethless if we weren't offered anything in the first 25 picks for them then i wouldn't trade.

RE: White trade... good idea. to get it done however it would require 2-3 clubs to be interested, not only 1 club. but would be clever trade.

You are probably right regarding the rookies, but i like Valenti a lot. deserves a place on the list i reckon

id rather draft picks than prismall

that is, for what we'd have to give up to get him, it's not worth it

i know he struggles to make geelongs 22 so people dont think it would take a lot to get him but there are 15 (soon to be 16) other clubs that could offer something greater than us, in order to get him

Posted

put it this way yencks

robbie warnock i've heard is pretty keen to come over here. if he says no to freo, i dont want to sign with you, freo may think well lets snap up a trade..so then we'd have pick one in pre season draft to maybe get prismall or vice versa..geelong would want something out of it too- so dont rule out three way trade with a coub that has a top 20 pick, we offload a player to that club, club offloads that pick to geelong, we get prismall

we should seriously target both him and warnock. no one else. they bolster our 21-22 year old ranks

Carrol has a year left of contract...

Meesan signed a 3 yr deal a start of the year...

they both aren't going newhere.... unfortunately

I'm stunned. What a pack of bloody amatures were running that club. Who was responsible for that? And we've got the worst team by a mile and we're paying 100% of the salary cap.

Posted

it does seem odd that a guy who played barely any games for the crows, is a ruckman and over 20 got 3 years with us..when we knew we had white, johnson and jamar

Exactly. We'd be giving up too much for him. Similar to when we got Moloney. Same kind of player as Moloney anyway.

Sylvinator is not far off.....

Here is my speculative view, if we finish bottom: - Picks 1, 17, 19, 35, 51.

OUT: 7 players

Neitz - retired

Yze - finished at Melb

Holland

White - finished at Melb

Bode - delisted

Weetra - delisted

1 x Trade of some sort - Ie Green

IN: 7 players ( 5 via picks ND; 1 Rookie upgrade; 1 PSD)

pick 1

pick 17

pick 19

pick 13 or 14 or 15 (acquired from trading Green) - Perhaps Bulldogs (with a swap for Pick 35; might have to be Pick 19) Note: West and Eagleton possible retirements.

pick 51

Wonaeamirri- rookie upgrade

Robbie Warnock (pick 1 PSD)

I think Valenti will remain on the rookie list.

White possible trade for exchange of late picks. May result in Pick 51 being upgraded to in the 40's at best. Yze, Holland should finish up.

White was on his last legs, while PJ and Jamar hadn't nailed down a ruck role either. Far from being concerned we have too many rucks, we need more.

Here is my speculative view

Not bad. Upgrading by more than a couple of players for White'd be a steal, though. I mean King was traded for nothing (a pick that Geelong didn't use, iirc?).
