Seems old Vlad is as Bjork puts it, Oh so quiet, on the crowd figures from the weekend. As pointed out by Sporting Life from The Age:

That is interesting. He'll probably put it down to "a cold night".

The real reason is the Demons can pull a crowd to a game.......on a Saturday afternoon.

I wasn't there but would be interested to hear how many Dees fans compared to Dons fans, they do have a rahter large supporter base.

But yes HT Sat arvo games for the Dees would be very handy wouldn't it, can't recall the last time we played back to back Sat games..

Will also be interesting to see how many we get this week to a Friday night game against the Cats who had less than us this week on the Friday night.

Disagree - certainly there were more Essardon supporters than Dee supporters but, we had a very good turnout in the members area (many more than them), and we seemed to have a good many supporters around the ground.

After the game I was surprised at the number of Melbourne supporters (the obvious ones with supporter gear on) in the crowd outside the ground.

More Essendon supporters yes. But we were very well represented IMHO.

I went to the game and saw red and blue numbers down in the MCC members and then later in the general football area where it seemed predominantly Essendon with a few hardy souls.

We reached 46k on the back of Essendon's support. We had NM at the MCG last week and struggled to get over 21K.

4. Had the Rich-Gee game been at the MCG, add another 10-15k, which would make up for the amount of Demons supporters who would have shown up, had we been in the top 8.

Totally agree. If you took the blinker's off you would see that it was one of the better turnouts for Melbourne support. Go Dees!

I believe point Number 1 had alot to do with it. When you combine 1 and 3 (MCG), the Red & Blue turn up.

Dramatically improved - I wouldn't say that, IMO it was a better turnout. And I believe it being a Saturday, it allowed some other members to attend who may have preferred a saturday fixture at the G, which we haven't had for a while.

As for Vlad, I don't think that this is some come uppance to Vlad , but my thoughts are:- any information or opinions he here's from the masses, that could or may generate more saturday fixtures for the Dees, the better for us all Dees supporters, even if it does fall on deaf ears!

The noise levels were up against Freo and Brisbane but the numbers certainly werent.

The issue is whether a Saturday draw consistently improves the numbers for MFC to a higher amount than it would for higher drawing clubs. The AFL is using Saturday to maximise the crowds from all its games. THe upside in numbers to playing a Coll- Carlton game on a Saturday as opposed to NM-MFC on a Saturday does not justify given NM-MFC a regular Saturday game.

We had four years out of five that we finished top 8 (2002, 2004,2005,2006) and our attendance numbers were still rather meek.

Its going to take a number of issues to be addressed but a critical issue is the need for real sustained success over a number of years that (hopefully) includes a premiership to make MFC a bankable and well supported entity.

Yes these are blatantly obvious statements regarding Saturday at The 'G' (the greatest stadium in the world - there's another obvious statement)

It doesn't retract from the view that there seemed more Melbourne support than previous games.
