I have reviewed the Vic Metro and W.A. sides last night. From these sides having watched them play in the last game of the U18 Champ's, I have 'turned recruiter', of the 44 players I saw, these were the standouts for me (not in any particular order):-

Unfortunately, if we have pick 1, our next one won't be until 17. So, we may only get 1 player out of the following: -

(VIC) - Blease, Zaharkis, Smith, McKernan, Watts, Logan, Lyle, Banner.

(WA) - Rich, Yarren, Naitanui, Hill.

I saw a bit of O'Keefe from Sth Aust in highlights - he looked good too. I'm sure there are others from SA and other states....

But of these I saw some great attributes in - apologies to De Boer who was touted he didnt catch my eye as much : -

BLEASE - Neck breaking pace, skill and poise. 2 goals - class personified. Top 10 pick.

ZAHARKIS - Plenty of pace, broke lines, accurate kick - looks a 'hungry for the footy type' - looks professional. Top 5 pick.

SMITH - Saw a few good things, played half forward and midfield, good mark & kick, took on Rich in last quarter, looks skillful, I think a top 20 pick. Would be happy if we got him at 18 for example.

McKERNAN - Yes looks like his brother, not as tall. Top 15 pick for sure.

WATTS - Kicked 2 goals, does look to have class, by reports had more influence in the other games, led well, presented well. Still development within him. Won't get much out of him 1st year. Light frame at present. Top 5 pick.

LOGAN - Was Nathan Buckley's tip for a high selection. Does look to have huge leadership qualities. Found ball well, hard at it, wants it everytime. Loves his footy, professional.

LYLE - Can play key position, played CHB, looks a leader also, top 30 pick.

BANNER - Had heaps of ball, kept finding it, was on Rich for parts of the game. In and under type, gets clearances, kicking to position the only query. Top 20 pick.

RICH - Class personified, looked to be the best kick from just on what I saw, left footer CLASS, pace is ok - not the fastest, but can turn it on, quick with hands, good hands, good vision. My No.1.

YARREN - Looks Top 10 for sure. Maybe Top 5. Another forward option with loads of potential. Skillful forward, can take grabs. Has pace to burn. A Adam Goodes type for comparison.

NAITANUI - Huge Leap, athletic, forward and ruck option. Highly competitive. Top 5 easy.

HILL - Young, athletic, small, fast, left footer. A young Nathan Eagleton, Daniel Pearce type. Kicked a beauty on the run at full tilt from 55m. Looks a top 20.

im going to go with NikNat.. i think we need this kid.... we need someone who is marketable, who will make people come watch the demons...he will make jaws drop with domination in 3 years but even up to then he will excite many with bursts! and i also think he will be good enough to play as a forward. Buddy even started as a ruckman.

I do appreciate the report but the fact you have predicted where you think players will be drafted based on the one game of under 18's is a tad silly.

What about the talented South Australians like Hartlett or Vic Country's Sidebottom and co?

Most of the WA kids are playing senior football in the WAFL. I'd rather read an assessment of them based on how they're currently performing at this level, rather than 1 under 18 game.

and I saw that game as well and by the performance of Natanui on the day you wouldn't put him in top 10

and while u have watched a couple of under18games, our recruiters have been following these kidz for 4-5 yrs...

so after most clubs recruiters have publicly said they rate Naitanui as a top3 pick, i think i'll trust em...

Yes, I reckon he'll go top 25, maybe even first round, but as stated, the knock on him is his kicking. He's a beautifully smoothe mover though and ticks lots of boxes. He has good upside I would have thought.

One I left out was Hurley for VIC Metro, he is considered top 10 material, played a key back role in the game, good overhead mark, good at ground level.

Just wish we could get our hands on half-a-dozen of the first 20 this draft, to fill a few holes. I think we'll get 4 picks out of the top 25, it remains to be seen who will be traded, but I will predict the Footy Department will try for 4 out of 25, courtesy of a trade somewhere and pick swapping.

Both Watts and Johnston have huge upside, moreso for Watts. Johnston had belief issues but these are starting/have been sorted out. Once he realises he belongs, he will dominate around CHF.

Robinson may be 18, turning 19 this year, but he has got real pace, can rack up possessions, as well as contested possessions, doesn't mind being in the thick of things and loves to tackle. He would have the quickest impact on the team, given he is almost 1.5 years older than the others and has a decent sized body.

If we draft these three, we would have done very well IMO. Hopefully we will get Warnock and maybe someone decent through the PSD, if Warnock is not taken there.

Sounds good. Who did Robinson and Johnston represent at the Championships and who are they playing footy for now ?

Johnston played for SA in the championships and plays for North Adelaide and is also a member of the AIS along with Jack Watts. Johnston is a basketball convert and is 192cm, has a good strong grab and can kick the ball a fair way too.
