Top 5 Midfielders for '09

Don't be surprised if Davey gets placed into that list. I must admit that i was very sceptical about him becoming a midfielder as i felt we needed someone always at the fall of the ball in the forward line, but with Aussie coming to the club and showing some talent we could make Davey a midfielder that goes forward on occasion.

For me: McLean, Jones, Davey, Moloney, Green

If we look at the best midfield combination for our starting 18 it has to be Mclean, Jones, Davey, Green and Dunn. Good balance to hard nuts, two outside midfielders with pace(Davey) and both with great disposal and a stopping player in Dunn. Hopefully the next 5 can improve to supply the support Sylvia, Morton, Bartram, Moloney and Buckey.

I would say Petterd wont be ready to play an important role in the midfield til 2010.

I think we will see him on a half back flank or across the wing next season. Its important we dont rush him into significant roles.

McLean, Jones, Dunn, Davey & Bruce.

Haven't seen enough of Morton, Buckley, CJ, Valenti & Grimes to make a call as to their midfield capabilities, we need at leat a couple of them to step up soon though. Bruce will be on his last legs as midfielder, I cannot see an ongoing role for Moloney as the game gets faster and its likely Macca will not play on, if he does it will be in a more limited defensive role as per this year.

Developing or obtaining a top shelf mid with pace should be a massive priority - that midfield is OK, its pretty obvious what it is missing though - a champion.

You can forget about Prismall.

My best 5:

McLean, Dunn, McDonald, Bate, Jones.

Bate is an interesting choice. I dont doubt he could do the job with good effect but I think without an awesome KPF, we need his sure hands across half forward.

I think he will play half forward/midfield but I can't see him as a KPF under Bailey's plans. Bails may prove me wrong.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
