If I were Jeff White

i would offer my services to the Hawks next year for a 1 year deal worth 150,000-200,000. Hawks would get him in the PSD draft, not wasting any of their picks in the national draft. Cats will go back to back this year. So White poses as a handy backup for the Campbell/Taylor duo should one get injured of be out of form. Hawks are well and truly into their rebuliding so this could work for their push in 2009. this doesnt benifit us at all but wont affect us either, our window isnt open just yet.

I still rate White quite highly.

I dont think Jamar is good enough to handle the rucking role by himself. And Meesen is a few years (if at all) away yet.

I want to keep Jeff.

If I were Jeff White I'd retire. I'll be 32 by the time next season starts, and currently can't get a senior game with the side that's on the bottom of the ladder.

Why would a club like the Hawks even think about picking me?

Completely agree Maurie. Hawks would be the last club to go for him.

Peter Street in the VFL beat him easily yesterday. The ignominy of it. White is finished. Lets move on.

Maybe your right mate.

Thanks for opening my eyes.

it would only be a one year deal. more money for Jeffs super and peace of mind for the Hawks. cant get a senior game because he is useless or doesnt fit our plan going forward. DB is getting games into a lot of players to see what he has got.

reasons hawks would take him

- waste no picks in national draft for him

- comes dirt cheap

- Hawks 80% chance of top four finish next year based on current form

- Hawks have superstar forwards mids and a bloody good defence. their weak link is their ruck but get away with it ala the LIONS due to their superstar mids, he would come for basiclly free and would be spot 44 on the Hawks list.

Why at 32 would White be interested in starting again?

With the younger Campbell, Renouf and Taylor developing, White would not be a priority for the Hawks.

Why would Hawthorn take him if he is useless and can't get a senior game?

A team that has set itself over the last 5 years to build a young premiership contender, will not now try to plug gaps (especially with players that can't get a game).

Why draft an old guy in a premiership window, when you can keep getting younger guys who can prolong your premiership window

If he said he wanted to be a one club player it must have been when he was at Freo!

For mine White is emblematic of the failings of the Daniher years. No surprise to me that with White and Yze out we played with an intensity not seen since the Swooper era.

At least Jamar is physical.

Can't see the "unsociable Hawks' picking up a 31 year old White except to use as an example of how Clarkson expects the Hawks not to play.

Give me a break. White's demise has come about with the introduction of the ruck circle. Prior to that, he was widely acknowledged as one of the premier ruckman.

It's only natural that an ageing 195cm ruckman, who's asset is his leap, is going to struggle against younger giants. I can't imagine him playing on next year.

White has been a wonderful servant at the club, and is deserving of a farewell game in round 22.

I should imagine that Jeff is firmly looking at that little white lettered green sign above the door leading out !! reads..EXIT.

He has intimated much earlier in the year that this will be his last season. He's too old to be going anywhere else except a well earned retirement.Besides the age factor..the form issue is the sealer !! He has no doubt had a look around and seen how others have gone out..or played a few games too many!!

Thanks Jeff... next !!!!!

Why would the Hawks waste a spot on the list for a ruckman who cant cut it with the bottom side?

And the Lions have superstar mids?

It just gets better.

Think you'll find he was referring to the Lions team that won 3 in a row

Jeff was comprehensively beaten by Street yesterday, and only few of his occasional hitouts resulted in clearances.

I have ben a great Jef fan, but when one looks impassionately, very few of his hitouts recently have led to clearances: a far greater proportion of PJ's and MJ's have.

That is surely the bottom line, especially when he doesn't contribute a hell of a lot around the ground.

IMO he could have been developed a couple of years ago as a tall forward, but too late now.

IMO he would be sensible to retire.

Retire with dignity in rd 22

Great service, but time to move on

Think you'll find he was referring to the Lions team that won 3 in a row

Whose ruckman (Charman, Keating and McDonald) were all effective, no frills, bash n crash ruckman who perfectly suited their game style

Maybe he could go to sydney for a year or two and jolly could be second ruckman again?

Um, the reason he isn't getting a game isn't because he's 3rd best ruckman at the worst team, its because the two hacks who do get a game need a white less run at it while it doesnt matter.

I think he'll retire. As has been mentioned recently before, he's just sold his house in Melbourne and is looking for a property in Queensland to move with his wife and pursue a golfing career.

While it's not set in stone, that fact, coupled with his recent exclusion from the team, and the amount of game time Jamar/PJ are getting as part of their development, is as good an indication as any that he'll call it a day.

As a side-note, maybe he could go to the Bulldogs...? As i saw today, Hudson and Minson aren't much good in the ruck duels, and Minson looks like he's being groomed as a gorilla FF. White and Hudson as a tandem ruck team with Minson full time forward could sound very inviting for them, especially if they make the top 4 this year and believe they're a shot in '09...

Simon Black is a superstar. credit where credit is due. we hopefully have one in Cale Morton.

Post of thread.

Youre all being too hard on JEff..

I know he is no longer up to it, but he would be getting a game most clubs, its actually HARDER for players of his age to get games at clubs that are rebuilding!!

Jeff had a horrific, HORRIFIC shin injury, still has, was told he could never play again, he's had it operated on 14 times! incredible!

His shins bled out constantly, he was in absolute agony every game, but he troopered on!

It really struck him down in his prime!

The new centre circle also played a HUGE role in his demise!

Thanks for your service over hte years Jeff, and all the best, yes its time to move on, maybe another club who is in the premiership window and in need of a ruckman, but I doubt it!

With Warnock looking like becoming a demon, its time..

But I for one can understand how much youve providede olur club with, and thanks all those highlights mate!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
